Harvard Recreation , managed by HealthFitness , seeks a proactive and customer-service-driven Lead Front Desk Attendant to join our campus team in Cambridge, Massachusetts . This hands-on role oversees front desk operations, ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience for members and guests. You will lead by example, guiding staff during shifts, ensuring tasks are completed promptly and accurately, and resolving issues as they arise. You will also support team members in real-time and escalate performance concerns to the Membership Manager when necessary.

Hours (full-time) : 30-35 hours per week

Schedule :

  • Summer : Sunday 1pm-5 : 15pm, Mon-Thu 2pm-9 : 15pm
  • Academic Year : Sunday-Thursday 4pm-11 : 15pm

Responsibilities include :

  • Maintaining knowledge of front desk guidelines, expectations, and procedures to promote staff efficiency and confidence.
  • Escalating performance issues promptly to the Membership Manager, providing timely insights into staff performance.
  • Assisting with facility oversight and operations, including submitting work orders and maintaining operational logs.
  • Providing on-site presence and guidance in the absence of management.
  • Supporting onboarding, training, and interviewing of front desk staff.
  • Handling member check-ins, guest sign-ins, transactions, and assisting with memberships and renewals.
  • Ensuring safety and responding to medical emergencies with CPR / AED and First Aid as needed.
  • Delivering exceptional customer service to promote member retention in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working with computers and learning new applications to troubleshoot issues.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 2 years of in-person customer service experience
  • CPR / AED / First Aid certification within 90 days of hire
  • Basic computer skills and experience with member management / point of sale systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Reliable, accountable, and team-oriented
  • Experience in training or motivating others is a plus
  • Pay ranges from $19 to $21 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
