Alerion Healthcare is seeking a travel nurse RN Float Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Penn Yan, New York.

This is a RN Travel position. You must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be considered for this position.

    Registered Nurse - Medical / Surgical Position

    Position Overview

    Full-time acute Medical / Surgical RN position (36 hours)

    Apply knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high quality compassionate care to patients and families

    Develop specialized skill in the area of cardiac care including telemetry monitoring

    Floating required if needed

    Schedule

    3x12 hour shifts (7p-7a / 7a-7p) every other weekend and holidays

    2 on-call shifts per 4-week period

    Rotational days / evenings / nights / weekends / holidays

    Candidate must be open to working through the holiday season

    Required Qualifications

    NYS RN Licensure Required

    BLS certification

    ACLS certification

    One (1) year experience serving in Med / Surg environment as a Registered Nurse

    Key Responsibilities

    Patient Care and Assessment

    Assess patient need, develop a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provide direct care, evaluate patient progress, and coordinate care delivery throughout the patient's episode

    Apply nursing knowledge and skill in delivery of care by assessing patient / family needs through active listening, social perceptiveness, and analyzing data / information obtained through direct observation and assessment, technology, or health team communication

    Create developmentally and age appropriate, culturally relevant, individualized plan of care to address the nature and scope of health problems identified

    In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and health care team members, set goals and monitor the patient's progress

    Adjust the plan based on patient response or change in condition / reprioritization of needs

    Quality and Safety

    Promote, advocate for and protect the health, safety and rights of the patient

    Systematically evaluate quality and effectiveness of Nursing Practice, use the results of Quality Improvement activities to initiate changes in individual nursing practice and to influence care delivery

    Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems

    Demonstrate skill in application of nursing interventions including medication administration

    Comply with infection prevention strategies and maintain competencies required to care for the specific population in the area assigned

    Report potential safety risks and inappropriate / questionable practices

    Patient and Family Education

    Be accountable for patient family education to assist the patient and family in understanding self care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing

    Motivate the patient / family by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home

    Assess the patient / family learning styles and structure the sessions to maximize understanding

    Seek "teachable" moments during the care delivery process to emphasize pertinent information

    Ask questions to evaluate retention of key points in the self care process

    Provide tools and information to assist the patient family after discharge

    Document the education provided and the patient / family response to the education

    Team Collaboration and Leadership

    Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to promote members of the team working together to accomplish the best possible patient outcome

    Teach others as appropriate and delegate tasks and interventions consistent with the individual's education, training, and scope of practice

    Promote leadership awareness and foster positive change

    Conduct rounds per protocol and use tools and equipment needed to keep the patient / family informed, engaged, and safe

    Engage in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas in which professional development would be beneficial and take accountability to increase knowledge and enhance skill
