Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Psychiatric unit, requiring a ME or compact RN license and behavioral health nursing experience.
Responsibilities
Work in a free-standing acute inpatient psychiatric facility on the Pediatric unitPatient population includes pediatric patients ages 5-18 with behavioral and psychiatric diagnoses such as eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and oppositional defiant disorderShift is 7A-7P, 12-hour days, with every other weekend requiredRN patient ratios : Days 1 : 5-6; Nights 1 : 13 with resource and tech supportMay be required to float between pediatric and adult psychiatric units as neededNo on-call requirementsUses Cerner for charting and Pyxis for medication managementServe pediatric psychiatric patients with both voluntary and involuntary admissionsFloat support includes a nurse supervisor, nurse manager, house administrator, nurse practitioner, psychiatrist, occupational therapist, and psych techsSeclusion rooms may be used as neededTraditional medical and psychiatric care provided in addition to specialized therapies including group sessions and pet therapyComprehensive unit orientation includes one week of days and one week on assigned shiftScrubs may be any solid color and must be professionalFlu vaccination required for start dates after 9 / 30 / 2024, with medical exemptions reviewed by the clientFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyHeavy snow conditions are common in winterRequirements
Active ME or compact RN licenseBasic Life Support (BLS) certification requiredMinimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience requiredPediatric behavioral health experience preferred; candidates without may be considered with manager approvalDe-escalation skills and experience with physical restraints (no chemical restraints used)Comfortable with medication passes, group facilitation, and documentationMust not have worked in a permanent capacity at any Northern Light Health hospitalPermanent address must be 100+ miles South / Southwest of EMMC in Bangor, ME for considerationBenefits
