Must-Have : IV experience, ability to read EKGs, experience with high acuity patients

Description :

Level 1 Trauma experience is required.

Candidates must pass a DYS exam prior to acceptance.

There is a pass / fail exam on the first day of orientation.

All RNs will be required to complete a simulation lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes.

Competence in maintaining a sterile field is crucial as it is performed frequently.

Nurses who do not feel competent in these areas may not be a suitable fit.

In addition to simulation lab skills, RNs will receive education on lifts, restraints, and wound care.

The unit is a Medical Telemetry unit with 30 beds.

The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 4.

The charting system used is Cerner.

Charge nurses do not have patient assignments.

Two patient care technicians assist on the unit.

There is a weekend requirement of every other weekend.

Holidays are to be worked into the schedule.

Scrub colors are navy.

Patients are required to be independent for Bipap and Cpap.

An IV Team is available for difficult IV sticks.

Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy services are available 24 / 7.

Shifts are from 7 PM to 7 AM.

Floating to any MedSurg / Telemetry floor may be required.

Floor-specific orientation lasts for two days.

Common patient diagnoses include Gyn surgeries, pre-liver transplant, ESRD, cellulitis, pneumonia, diabetes, and DKA.

The patient turnover rate is approximately one-third each day.

Cancellations may occur for up to four shifts during the assignment.
