Job Duties
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and physical assessments of patients upon intake, evaluating medical and substance use history, co-occurring disorders, and overall clinical needsDevelop, implement, and regularly review individualized treatment plans, incorporating both medical and behavioral health strategies aligned with patient recovery goalsPrescribe and manage medications, including MAT (e.g., buprenorphine, naltrexone), to address withdrawal symptoms, support long-term recovery, and treat co-occurring conditionsMonitor patient response to treatment, adjusting medications and care plans as clinically indicatedProvide clinical oversight during detoxification, ensuring safety and comfort through symptom management, risk assessment, and ongoing evaluationCollaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams, including registered nurses, therapists, peer support specialists, and case managers, to ensure coordinated and holistic care deliveryEducate patients and families on substance use disorders, medication adherence, relapse prevention, and strategies for sustained recoveryMaintain timely, accurate, and confidential medical records in compliance with state and federal guidelines, including documentation required by OhioMHAS and the Ohio Board of NursingParticipate in clinical team meetings to discuss patient progress and contribute to treatment planning from a medical and psychiatric perspectiveRespond to medical or psychiatric emergencies, providing clinical intervention and coordination of additional care as neededSupport discharge planning through collaboration with care teams and outside providers to ensure continuity of care post-residential treatmentRemain current on addiction medicine practices, Ohio scope of practice laws for APRNs, and evidence-based treatment protocols through continuing education and trainingContribute to quality improvement initiatives, program development, and staff education related to addiction treatment and integrated careLicense Requirements / Qualifications :
Active Ohio APRN license in good standing with prescriptive authority (CTP or CTP-E)Substance use disorder (SUD) treatment experience; minimum 3 years preferred in detox or residential addiction treatment settingsMAT credentialing : DEA X-waiver (DATA 2000 Waiver) or ability to obtain for prescribing buprenorphine and other MAT medicationsAdvanced clinical knowledge of addiction pharmacology, withdrawal management protocols, and co-occurring disorders such as PTSD, depression, or anxietyUnderstanding of OhioMHAS regulations and Joint Commission standards applicable to substance use disorder treatment facilitiesProficiency in electronic health records (EHR) for documentation and care coordination (experience with systems like Kipu, Athenahealth, or similar is a plus)Crisis intervention skills and training in de-escalation or trauma-informed care modelsBasic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certificationsExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage empathetically with patients experiencing emotional distress, withdrawal symptoms, or relapseCommitment to evidence-based practice, including ongoing continuing education in addiction medicine, pharmacology, and behavioral health careTeam leadership ability to guide and collaborate with clinical and support staff in fast-paced, patient-centered environments
