Supervisory Medical Support Assistant
The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant is responsible for initiating and carrying out a wide range of administrative functions associated with providing overall care and treatment for all veterans and non-veterans reporting to the facility. This announcement serves to fill 1 vacancy at Little Rock within the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare Systems. Responsibilities include supervising all activities of subordinate medical clerks, establishing guidelines and performance expectations, observing workers' performance, demonstrating and conducting work performance critiques / audits, providing informal and formal feedback, resolving informal complaints and grievances, developing work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions, providing advice and counsel to workers, effecting disciplinary measures, reviewing and approving or disapproving leave requests, ensuring that subordinates are trained and comply with safety regulations, and supervising scheduling of appointments in all specialty clinical areas. Work schedule is full-time, 8 : 00am-4 : 30pm Monday-Friday, subject to change based on the needs of the service. Recruitment incentive, permanent change of station, and telework are not available. Pay is competitive with regular salary increases, and benefits include paid time off, parental leave, child care subsidy, retirement, and insurance. Requirements include being a U.S. Citizen, proficiency in written and spoken English, subject to background / security investigation, and passing a pre-employment physical evaluation. Upon completion of a trial period, employment will be terminated unless certification is received that continued employment advances the public interest. Basic requirements include United States Citizenship, experience or education, and may qualify based on the Grandfathering Provision. For GS-8, one year of experience leading or supervising MSAs or equivalent administrative patient support staff is required. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities include providing the full range of administrative and supervisory duties, collaborating and communicating with internal and external customers, managing fiscal matters, and advanced knowledge of managing or leading patient support staff. Preferred experience includes scheduling appointments, excellent customer service skills, operational knowledge of CPRS, VISTA GUI, and VISTA, ability to pull Consult Reports, experience on the ACD line, multitasking, knowledge of clinic management, and training scheduling staff. Physical requirements include standing, lifting, carrying, sitting, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing, and may require wearing personal protective equipment and undergoing annual TB screening or testing. Work environment is in an office / clinic setting with minimal risks that requires normal safety precautions. Education verification and foreign education recognition are required.
