Description : POSITION SUMMARY :

The AMA YMCA is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Gymnastics Coach to join our Recreational Gymnastics Program! Designed for ages 18 months to 12, our classes help young athletes develop strength, confidence, coordination, and new skills in a fun and supportive environment.

We're searching for a coach with a strong background in gymnastics or tumbling who can lead weekly classes with energy, structure, and safety at the forefront. From forward rolls and cartwheels to round-offs and back handsprings, you'll help our youth progress through beginner to intermediate levels—celebrating every milestone along the way.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Plan and instruct recreational gymnastics classes with a focus on skill development across beam, bars, tumble track, trampoline, and floor tumbling.
  • Teach safe, fun, and effective techniques tailored to each apparatus, adapting to the needs and abilities of each child.
  • Provide clear verbal cues and visual demonstrations, incorporating drills and progressions that build confidence and control.
  • Maintain a positive, encouraging atmosphere by offering constructive feedback to help athletes improve form, strength, and technique.
  • Ensure athlete safety at all times through proper spotting, equipment checks, and enforcement of class expectations.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and athletes regarding skill progression, goals, and class updates.
  • Uphold the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith in all interactions.
  • Maintain equipment and training spaces to ensure a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall success of the gymnastics program.
  • Requirements : QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Minimum age of 15.
  • Previous coaching experience in gymnastics is required.
  • Strong knowledge of tumbling technique and form.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with athletes of all ages and skill levels.
  • Ability to create and implement lesson plans tailored to different skill levels.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

  • Stand for extended periods while instructing classes.
  • Lift and move equipment such as mats and spotting blocks.
  • Demonstrate tumbling skills as needed to assist students.
  • Weekly Schedule : During the school year, classes are held in the evenings and on Saturdays. In the summer, classes are scheduled in the mornings and / or evenings.
