Job Summary :
The Dental Hygienist plays a vital role in providing high-quality preventive and therapeutic dental care to patients. This position focuses on promoting optimal oral health through patient education, thorough cleanings, periodontal therapy, and collaboration with the dental team to ensure an exceptional patient experience.
Key Responsibilities :
- Perform oral prophylaxis , scaling and root planing , and periodontal maintenance in accordance with state dental hygiene laws and practice guidelines.
- Conduct comprehensive periodontal charting , including probing depths, bleeding points, and recession measurements.
- Take and interpret digital radiographs and intraoral images as prescribed by the dentist.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques , disease prevention, and the relationship between oral and systemic health.
- Apply fluoride treatments , sealants , and desensitizing agents as indicated.
- Administer local anesthesia (if certified and permitted by state law).
- Document all findings, treatment provided, and patient communication accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) .
- Assist in maintaining sterilization and infection control standards within operatories and instruments.
- Communicate effectively with dentists and team members regarding patient care and treatment recommendations.
- Participate in continuing education and team meetings to stay current with industry standards and promote practice growth.
Qualifications :
Education : Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program.Licensure : Current Dental Hygiene license in California and certification in local anesthesiaCertifications : CPR certification required.Technical Skills : Proficient in dental software DentrixCore Competencies :
