BluePearl Pet Hospital at Lewisville, TX is hiring an extraordinary Oncology Veterinary Technician!

This role is eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $2,000.

ABluePearlOncology Technicianis someone who isself-motivated, a quick thinker, andis able tomulti-task communicationskills and compassionarea must.Preferto have a minimum of two or more years’ experience in a specialty veterinary right candidate willbe responsible fortreating and monitoring patients as well assupportingthe clinician with patient care and client communication.

As an Oncology Technician, you will:

• Perform physicalexam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratoryrateand effort.

• Understand normal vital and lab parameters andalertsdoctor when abnormal.

• Perform phlebotomy.

• Placeperipheralintravenous catheter in cephalic vein.

• Calculate basic medical math.

• Set upappropriate materialsfor chemotherapy administration.

• Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents.

• Safely dispense,reconstituteand administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents.

• Check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages.

• Properly shave and wrap for an IV catheter for chemotherapy infusion.

• Have the knowledge of chemotherapy extravasation and what to do if it happens.

• Admit Oncology patients and obtain thorough history including current medications and dosages, response to treatment and side effects,intensityand duration.

• Discharge Oncology patients from the hospital, including basic client education such as how to handle patient eliminations after chemotherapy, how to handle oral chemotherapy at home, chemotherapy and radiation side effects and oral medication administration.

• Maintainsolidgrasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations andis able toconverse with other veterinary professionals in medical terms.

• Address client concerns and answer them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization. Quickly and competentlyfacilitatesincoming calls.

• Havethe knowledgeofthe tumortypes.

• Understand diagnostic work-up protocols (including oncology specific terminology for each tumor/cancer type pereach hospital’sprotocol.

• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment andassistwith patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.

• Remain current on CPR guidelines anddemonstratesproficiencyin designatedroleas assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.

• Maintain hospital forday to dayfunction and operation (stocking, cleaning, etc.).
