About The Position
Hospital : Location : Portsmouth Regional Hospital Address : 333 Borthwick Ave., Portsmouth, NH 03801 Unit Name : Pharmacy Building : Main building Cost Center : 71201 General Information Unit Specifics : Number of Beds : 240 generally we run 170-200 for a census. We are a level II trauma Center the pharmacy is opened 24 hours daily Patient Ratios : Not applicable Unit staffing description- (unit secretaries and tech availability) : Type of equipment : IV compounding Laminar Flow Hood; Glove Box; Meditech Expanse; Pyxis Documentation system : Meditech Expanse IV compounding 360 Software Scheduling requirements : 8-10 hour shifts ( dayshift : 7-3 : 30PM for distribution; IV tech : 6 : ; Swing technician (12N-8 : 30PM); evening technician 2-10 : 30PM; Overnight technician : 2100- 0730 Floating policy : No floating only in pharmacy Patient Experience requirements : minimal to none Hospital Specifics- Certifications : NH state license and national certification Hiring profile Requested Skill Set : Must have : Good communication skills will be talking to nursing staff and other licensed staff that call into the pharmacy; basic technician experience filling pyxis machines, picking medications for the pyxis machines; basic computer skills for prepacking medications; logging into Meditech Expanse. Very fast spaced environment. Advanced skills needed : IV training would be great or a candidate that would be willing to learn IV sterile compounding. Procedures performed on unit : In the pharmacy : Distribution tasks include but not limited : picking and delivering medications to Pyxis machines; answering phones; taking missing med technician on imobile device during shift for rapid communication with nursing staff; prepacking medications into unit dose containers. Emptying return bins with another technician on designated locations daily; station inspections; checking for outdates in the pharmacy; returning medications to stock; helping put away medication delivery orders from the wholesaler Certifications Required : National Technician Certification Dress Code : (Required uniform) Hospital scrubs or personal scrubs plain shirts no writing or endorsements; sturdy closed toe shoes- i.e. sneakers, casual shoes) lots of walking Unit Guidelines / Policies : Please attach unit specific policies and guidelines. 20 years to our newest employees which came out of our residency program last year. We do have a PGY1 residency program, which we generally have 2 residents per year- through our residents we do offer some CE programs for our staff including our technicians. All of our staff are highly motivated and all contribute to the success of our department. The pharmacists are decentralized so they are out on the nursing units daily with a core staff in the pharmacy. I try to work with my staff to create a good work- life balance relationship. We do some team building monthly and we also participate and many activities the hospital provides- i.e. Christmas parade; craft fair; adopt a family for Christmas; food drives, etc. We also try to do outside activities as a team the last one was Haunted overload at Halloween.
