Direct Support Professional (Overnight Shift) – Hopewell, VA

Pay Rate : $17.00 per hour

Schedule : 7 : 00 PM – 7 : 00 AM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and every other Friday; as well as every other weekend

Location : Hopewell, Virginia

Position Summary

You Matter Residential Services is seeking a qualified and dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide compassionate, person-centered support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The DSP will assist individuals in achieving greater independence and community inclusion while ensuring their health, safety, and overall well-being in a residential setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) , including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
  • Lead and support residents in educational, recreational, and skill-building activities that promote independence.
  • Utilize Person-Centered Thinking principles to encourage choice, dignity, and self-determination.
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of residents at all times.
  • Prepare meals and snacks in accordance with dietary needs and program guidelines.
  • Support residents with housekeeping tasks, including laundry and maintaining a clean living environment.
  • Provide transportation to appointments, outings, and scheduled activities using the company vehicle.
  • Observe, document, and report any physical, behavioral, or emotional changes to the Service Program Director.
  • Participate in team meetings and required training sessions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities or mental health diagnoses.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to implement treatment plan objectives and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Skilled in using basic computer and word processing software.

  • CPR / AED / First Aid
  • Person-Centered Thinking Training
  • Medication Administration
  • Behavior Management Training
  • Human Rights and Home & Community-Based Support Training
  • Successful completion of a criminal history and registry background investigation
