The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for planning, development, and implementation of DCIU's marketing strategies, marketing communications, and public relations activities, both external and internal.

Oversees development and implementation of support materials and services for DCIU in marketing, communications and public relations.

Directs the efforts of other functions of the DCIU to maintain a program of legislative relations, communications, and marketing of intermediate unit programs, and learning opportunities for various stakeholders of the Delaware County Intermediate Unit and its member school districts.

It is also responsible to conduct programs of local and statewide special events.

Essential Functions

  • The Director interacts with all division administrators, is a member of the DCIU Executive Council, interacts with superintendents, school directors, state and federal legislators and their staffs, PDE officials, and other governmental affairs personnel from throughout Pennsylvania.
  • The Director plans and directs the division accomplishment of division responsibilities, goals, objectives and related IU goals.
  • Assess and solve problems affecting the daily and long-term operations of the DCIU.
  • Lead research for finding grants to enhance programs and services and process for applying.
  • Lead and support Legislative Council of Delaware County.
  • Confer with the Executive Director on matters or issues beyond the scope or role of the division.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of DCIU's internal and external strategic communication and marketing plans. Determines communication and marketing strategies and execute programs to deliver communications objectives throughout the organization.
  • Lead social media campaigns, marketing, and communications for DCIU.
  • Provide a comprehensive plan for marketing of DCIU programs and services, maintaining and providing government relations, communications, community relations, and duplication services for DCIU and its member school districts.
  • Provide administrative leadership and direction for the Director of Legislative, Print Shop, Events, and Publications at DCIU.

Provide leadership (and keep informed) regarding state and federal regulations, memoranda, and legislation relative to education.

  • Oversee DCIU Special Events including county and statewide programs.
  • Act as an entrepreneurial leader for the organization by developing and implementing new services and programs and enhancing current services and programs.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Advise and support the Executive Director on the leadership and implementation of long-range planning and DCIU's strategic priorities, and introduction of new programs, strategies, and regulatory mandates.
  • Foster a success-oriented, innovative, and accountable environment within the DCIU.
  • Develop, foster, and maintain good and effective relationships with stakeholders and represents the DCIU with a strong positive image.
  • Lead Crisis Communications for DCIU and support districts in same upon request.
  • Initiate, create, and launch press releases.
  • Responsible for leading DCIU Board policy updates.
  • Performs other duties as requested and / or assigned.

Education Required : Master's Degree in communications, journalism, political science or closely related field.

Experience Required : Prefer 5 years of administrative / supervisory experience; Five or more years of experience in communications, governmental relations, and marketing.

Prefer some experience working with schools or educational agencies. Excellent communication, writing, research, and speaking skills.
