The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) Division of Alaska Army National Guard - FMO (AKANG) is recruiting for a Maintenance Generalist Sub Journey 2 our Maintenance Section!
This position is in the Union 71 (LTC) bargaining unit at a W age Grade 56 .
This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

What You Will Be Doing :
This role is essential to supporting DMVA and AKARNG by performing preventative maintenance repairs and replacements of building and mechanical systems. The new team member will also be responsible for grounds maintenance at facilities throughout Alaska ensuring the proper upkeep and functionality of all properties statewide.

The successful applicants must pass a federal background check in order to qualify for military base access which is required with this positions work location on base. The background check may include fingerprinting. All job offers are conditional pending successful completion of the federal background check and issuance of a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) card allowing base access. Also you must be able to maintain the clearance throughout your employment. If using a private vehicle this will require a valid Alaska Driver License proof of vehicle insurance and a valid State of Alaska vehicle registration.
State employees are guests on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson; clearance and access are not within the States control.
Special Note : In addition in some cases employees must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC). As part of the examination process a background check investigation including a criminal records check will be conducted. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment. The circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered.

To qualify for this position the incoming team member must be willing and able to travel to remote field sites using boats small aircraft and helicopters and be prepared to work in varying weather conditions in confined areas and potentially be exposed to wildlife. Demonstrating your flexibility and experience with such environments will support your application.

Other requirements of the position :
You may be required to travel to remote areas of the state to support the Departments missions. DMVA is housed on the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson military base and adherence to special security guidelines protocol etc. need to be followed. All costs for any medical requirements will be at State expense; Exposure to work with manual and portable power tools for extended periods in uncomfortable positions; Frequent standing walking bending kneeling stooping twisting crawling reaching pulling pushing gripping repetitive motion of arms and hands climbing ladders working on scaffolding working on rooftops and working in dusty and dirty areas with noxious smells; Exposure to all weather conditions; Travel by small aircraft and helicopters; Work on heights over 25 feet above ground; Lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds unassisted over 50 pounds with assistance.
