PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patrols an assigned area to detect criminal activities, suspicious circumstances, traffic and ordinance violations and hazard to life or property.
- Interviews complainants, witnesses and other individuals to establish a network of information to determine the validity of a complaint.
- Detects violations, makes violator contacts, issues citations or warnings and places violators in custody, as appropriate.
- Responds to calls for service, analyzing criminal, emergency and law violators to determine the best method of handling.
- Determines sufficiency of evidence to justify a search and / or arrest.
- Handles suspects, law violators and prisoners according to departmental policies and procedures and uses effective law enforcement techniques.
- Conducts preliminary accident and offense investigations and writes required reports.
- Conducts routine checks of prisoners confined in the City Jail.
- Coordinates calls for service with fire, street and animal control personnel, as needed.
- Participates in community oriented programs.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of modern police methods, traffic, criminal and civil laws and regulations, departmental policies and procedures, and court systems and proceduresKnowledge of safety regulations applicable to motorized vehicles and equipmentKnowledge of radio communication procedures; knowledge of routine vehicle and equipment maintenanceAbility to type at least 30 wpm and operate computer equipmentKnowledge of City codes and ordinancesKnowledge of the geography of the CityMust be able to type at least 30 words per minute and operate computer equipment.Education & Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent is required with 60 college hours from an accredited college or university preferred.Must be a basic TCOLE certified Peace officer in good standing.A minimum of 2 years qualified street experience is preferred.Valid state driver's license required.State Mandated Requirements
