Job Announcement

$2,500 Sign-On Bonus

Under supervision of the Juvenile Forensic Evaluation Team manager, supports via evidence-based practices children and adolescents ages 13-21. Clients are referred from the Fairfax Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court (JDRDC). Clinician office may be located in the Juvenile Detention Center. Client presentations might include serious and persistent mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, at-risk issues, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders. Client concerns might include culture and equity, socioeconomics, and health. Services include comprehensive screenings and assessments, service plans, supportive counseling, crisis response, and evidence-based clinical interventions focused on youth clients. The clinician may consult with a multidisciplinary team including Community Services Board, school and court personnel, and community-based service providers. Provides assessments specific to the needs of the youth behavioral health population, plus collaboration, monitoring, and advocacy. Candidates should be familiar with primary therapy and case management activities. Manages a caseload in accordance with utilization guidelines to ensure smooth client service flow from entry to intake through discharge from services, to minimize service wait for clients at each stage of treatment. Adapts and modifies clinical treatment approaches clinical complexity and mental health status. Monitors treatment planning and progress and maintain detailed clinical charts and confidentiality. Uses collaborative documentation to enter clinical services notes. The clinician will adhere to established business license related billing procedures according to insurance, local, state, and federal standards, regulations, and statutes. Serves as a clinical expert for youth behavioral health services and collaborate with JDRDC program personnel accordingly. May have the opportunity to serve as a licensure supervisor to staff or student interns, or to directly supervise / authorize services provided by unlicensed staff.

Position may be underfilled as a Behavioral Health Clinician in Residence; the underfill requirements are stated below in the Employment Standards section.

  • The CSB provides clinical supervision for employees who are registered as licensed eligible mental health in one of the following areas : Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • In addition, to recognize and reinforce the importance of professional development and enhance future recruitment of licensed professionals, if approved, the licensure supervisors will receive a stipend of $1,500 paid out biweekly over a 12-month period whether for one or more Department of Health licensure candidates.
  • License / Certification Reimbursement - Reimbursement for job related licenses and / or certifications once per year.

Illustrative Duties

  • Maintains a diverse caseload of clients with acute, chronic mental illness;
  • Approves and / or implements therapeutic treatment plans;
  • Recommends, monitors, and coordinates clinical care to non-Community Services Board clients;
  • Consults with professionals on a variety of problems including delivery of needed services for clinically complex cases;
  • Provides liaison to community agencies to facilitate communication and service provision for clients requiring multiple services;
  • Monitors and analyzes the impact of psychotropic medication on client's functioning and mental status;
  • Provides risk assessments for dangerousness to self and others;
  • Provides crisis stabilization and crisis management.
  • Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, theories, and methods of the psychological and social development of the individual;
  • Thorough knowledge of intake procedures, social history development, and interviewing techniques;
  • Thorough knowledge of major schools of treatment of emotionally and socially disturbed individuals;
  • Knowledge of psychiatric, psychological, and / or sociological terminology and concepts;
  • Ability to conduct mental health assessments and apply treatment approaches / modalities;
  • Ability to formulate diagnoses for clients with acute, chronic, severe mental illness;
  • Ability to diagnostically interpret data obtained from psychological test results, social histories, and interviews;
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public and private sector organizations, community groups, and the general public;
  • Ability to monitor and analyze the impact of psychotropic medications;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Employment Standards

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Graduation from an accredited college with a master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or nursing; plus two years of clinical experience.

    CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED :

  • Possession of a current license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia in one of the following :
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker,

  • Licensed Professional Counselor,
  • Clinical Psychologist,
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist,
  • Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner or
  • Licensed Nurse Practitioner (LNP).
  • CPR / First Aid certifications (with 3 months of hire)
  • UNDERFILL REQUIREMENTS :

    This vacancy may be underfilled at the level of Behavioral Health Clinician in Residence (S26, $75,474.26 - $125,790.50). The employment standards for the Behavioral Health Clinician in Residence are :

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or nursing; plus two years of clinical experience.
  • Ability to register as a licensed eligible mental health professional within 90 days of the appointment and able to qualify for licensure requirement to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia within 3 years of employment in one of the following : Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist.

    Note : A registered licensed eligible mental health professional has been approved by the applicable Virginia health regulatory board as a supervisee in clinical social work or a resident in clinical psychology, professional counseling, substance abuse treatment practice, or marriage and family therapy.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. Requires a National Provider Identifier.
  • Licensed providers may not "opt out" of being a Medicare provider.
  • This position is emergency / essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and / or other emergencies.)
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • 2+ years of experience providing behavioral health services to youth in community outpatient, residential, or detention settings
  • Experience providing behavioral health services to youth in crisis, involved with court, or with mental health or substance use disorders in a community outpatient or residential setting
  • Experience working with Comprehensive Services Act (CSA) processes
  • Experience interpreting and following work procedures, working with other service agencies, in both team and independent work environments
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, verbal and written communication skills, and clinical skills and abilities
  • Experience with Credible electronic health care records
  • Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) certification
  • Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) or significant work experience with youth with substance use diagnoses
  • Experience with effectively communicating with diverse bilingual / multi-lingual populations.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

    Job is generally sedentary in nature; however, visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor and to be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to communicate well with others; observe, process, and document clinical information and make clinical interventions; and lift up to 15 lbs. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
