Overview :
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental reporting to the Vice President, health, Safety, Security and Environmentalto join our team. This role is a key part of the strategic succession plan designed to ensure a smooth transition of leadership within the HSSE department. The ideal candidate will work with the current VP to gain in-depth knowledge of Yusen's HSSE policies and procedures and prepare to assume the leadership position upon retirement.
This roleensures the effective development, execution, and continuous improvement of HSSE initiatives that align with company values, regulatory requirements, and business objectives. The Director plays a critical role in fostering a culture of safety, sustainability, and compliance across all operational functions. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a proven ability to lead and inspire a culture of safety excellence.
What you will do :
- All employees have the responsibility to plan and execute our work in ways that prevent injuries. It is an expectation we lead by example and require all employees to adhere to our safety procedures.
- Support the VP of HSSE in implementing company-wide safety initiatives and programs to reduce incidents and promote a culture of safety.
- Provide leadership and guidance. Influence Company leaders and provide guidance, support, and supervision to Safety team and facility safety managers; foster a culture of safety excellence by promoting accountability, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.
- Partner with the GM of Safety to manage injury prevention strategies, incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
- Collaborate directly with operations leadership to ensure safe work practices are consistently integrated into daily operational activities.
- Oversee the execution of regulatory safety compliance activities (OSHA, PCMSC) and ensure effective documentation and training.
- Lead safety audits, inspections, and drills, ensuring follow-up actions are documented and completed.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams. Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders, including leadership, operations, human resources, maintenance and repair, labor relations and other departments; work collaboratively to ensure safety considerations are integrated into business processes and decision-making.
- Participate in relevant safety committees, including Joint Accident Prevention Committee and Area Accident Prevention Committee.
- Drive YTI's Safety program to reduce injuries.
- Developing, updating, and implementing health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Oversee a monitoring program that analyzes workplace incidents and near misses to determine root causes and implement remedial measures to eliminate hazards when present.
- Lead and contribute to overall Environmental issues and Safety excellence by providing technical assistance.
- Collaborate with the Facility Security Officer (FSO) to support the execution of the Facility Security Plan (FSP) and compliance with USCG regulations.
- Help oversee and manage performance of the terminal's third-party security vendor (ACS).
- Assist in monitoring and managing environmental compliance programs, including SWPPP, SPCC, AMP, TRU, hazardous waste, and air quality regulations.
- Support the VP in driving YTI's zero-emissions strategy, including ZE equipment adoption and infrastructure.
- Lead, Develop, implement safety-related training and maintain Training master calendar (Track training for GST (3yrs), CPRD (2yrs), Hazardous Awareness, Haz Wopper, EAP, IIPP, Heat Illness, SPCC, SWPPP).

What you will bring :
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (Master's degree preferred).10+ years' management experience in logistics or maritime industry preferred; manufacturing or distribution backgroundMinimum 5 years of progressive experience in HSSE leadership positions with at least five years in a senior management position, preferably in maritime, logistics, or heavy industrial environments.Experience in a regulated environment with working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, USCG, and state / local regulations.Effective people management skills (e.g. planning, organizing, recruiting, controlling and leading individual staff and teams)Strong knowledge of behavioral safety programs, environmental compliance systems, and emergency response protocols.In depth knowledge of relevant HSSE laws, regulations, policies and standardsProven ability to work collaboratively across operational teams to embed a culture of safety and compliance.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, policies, and training materials.Proficient in data analysis and reporting related to safety and environmental metrics.Professional certifications such as CSP, CHMM, or similar are a plus.Strategic mindset, ability to drive strategic initiatives.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Strong problem-solving skills.Possess excellent executive communication skills with the courage to stand alone / have an independent point of view, even if others disagreeAbility to make the complex simple, identify where problems are occurring and deploy a robust root cause to improve processes; experience driving continuous improvementProven track-record of managing large, complex organizations or functionsComfortable and skilled in multitasking, responsive, quick, able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.Influencing skills, able to sell, propose, convince, and influence peers, managers, the leadership team and employees at large to adopt new practices, change and improve.Proven ability to lead in a fast-paced environment and work collaboratively with all functional support areas such as Operations, HR, Labor Relations, M&R, Commercial / Business Strategy.What you get :
