Chief Financial Officer – The Arc of Essex County, Inc

Position : Chief Financial Officer (CFO), full‑time, on‑site in Livingston, NJ, reporting directly to the CEO. The current CFO will retire January 2026.

Summary

The CFO will lead finance, asset management and compliance for the $40 M non‑profit 501(c)(3). The role partners with executive leaders, aligns financial strategy with mission, and supports Audit, Investment and Finance Board committees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee cash flow planning and monitor investments, financing strategies and banking relationships.
• Develop forward‑looking predictive models, metrics and activity‑based financial analyses to provide insight into operations and business plans.
• Provide key financial productivity measures to analyze agency operations and support strategic decisions.
• Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting and recommend organizational improvements.
• Engage the Audit, Finance and Investment committees of the Board in policy development and implementation; prepare reports, agendas and organize committee meetings.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit audit best practices and state / federal regulations for agency operations.
• Oversee the Finance Department, ensure internal controls, and supervise the Senior Director, Finance / Controller.
• Maintain accurate, timely financial reporting for federal, state and local funders, grants and the financial statements.
• Coordinate audits, tax filings and other required reports, and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Oversee acquisition, disposition and rehabilitation of agency assets and maintain a contract management system.
• Directly supervise the Senior Director, Asset Management and related functions, including maintenance, repairs, major capital projects and transportation equipment.
• Manage the Risk Management Plan, ensuring adequate insurance and related protections; oversee broker coordination, renewal processes and claims management.
• Oversee the Senior Director of Finance and Compliance, implementing procedures to address all government compliance requirements.
• Develop a metric‑based electronic data management and reporting system to monitor compliance activities.
