    • About the Role
    • The

    • Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Engineer
    • is responsible for ensuring product designs are optimized for efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality manufacturing. This role collaborates closely with design, engineering, and production teams to identify potential design issues, improve manufacturability, and streamline the product development lifecycle from concept through production.
    • The DFM Engineer will lead projects and indirectly supervise others on the implementation of New Product Development (NPD) programs, Advanced Concepts R&D, and VA / VE goals that require extensive cross-functional and cross-site (including international) coordination. Design for Six Sigma and NPD Stage / Gate processes will be leveraged to maximize the quality, speed, and business impact of projects.

    • What You’ll Do
    • Ensure process parameters and product CTQs (functionality, cosmetics, reliability) and ease of manufacture are achieved from concept phase through launch.
    • Develop and apply DFM / DFA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly) guidelines, standards, and best practices.
    • Conduct tolerance analysis and material / process evaluations for robust and repeatable manufacturing outcomes.
    • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to assess feasibility, tooling needs, and production scalability.
    • Provide feedback on CAD models, drawings, and prototypes to eliminate unnecessary complexity and cost.
    • Support new product introduction (NPI) activities, ensuring smooth transition from design to production.
    • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions related to design-driven manufacturing issues.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cycle time, scrap, and production costs.
    • Work cross-functionally with quality, procurement, and operations to validate design intent and manufacturability.
    • Maintain engineering documentation, reports, and DFM review records.
    • Review and validate supplier specifications against company standards; approve or reject as required.
    • Communicate engineering and product development updates to leadership.
    • Lead research, design, prototyping, testing, documentation, and tool design for new products or technologies.
    • What We’re Looking For
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
    • 3+ years of experience in product design, manufacturing engineering, or related discipline.
    • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, injection molding, casting, welding, and assembly.
    • Experience with CNC and robotic programming, and equipment parameter optimization for quality and cycle times.
    • Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or equivalent).
    • Strong understanding of GD&T with ability to perform tolerance stack-up analysis.
    • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
    • Strong project management skills with ability to deliver on time.
    • Hands-on approach to testing, prototyping, and proof-of-concept work.
    • Minimum 1 year of work experience using 3D CAD modeling software, preferably PTC Creo.
    • Experience with plastic and metals processes such as thermoforming, composites, injection molding, and extruding is a plus.
    • Experience with PDM / PLM systems is a plus.
    • MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint required.
    • Self-motivated, independent worker with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
    • Ability to collaborate across functions and with external suppliers.
    • Must be willing to travel occasionally, including international (approx. 15%).
