Position Description

The Art & Design Department at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), invites highly qualified, motivated, and well-organized applicants for a pool of part-time teaching appointments.

Department Mission Statement

The Art and Design Department offers rich arts education and programming, including three distinct B.A. degrees in Art, Art History, and Design, along with minors in Art, Art History, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Digital Graphics, and Photography. Our world-class faculty support students both in and out of the classroom. We leverage the diverse cultural landscape of Los Angeles and the resources of one of the world's great art centers. Our programs prepare students for professional and post-graduate work, culminating in presentations and exhibitions. The B.A. in Art encourages creativity with modern technologies and traditional media, while the Art History program fosters critical thinking and visual literacy across cultures and eras. The B.A. in Design covers print, web, UI / UX, illustration, photography, and motion design, with industry internships.

The Position

The temporary faculty pool remains open continuously, with positions filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to start teaching on short notice. The academic calendar includes a Fall term (late August to mid-December), a Spring term (mid-January to mid-May), and summer sessions, which may also have opportunities.

Teaching Responsibilities

Teach assigned lower and upper division courses in the department’s curriculum and maintain weekly office hours according to assigned teaching load.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or related discipline.
  • Prior college or university teaching experience and evidence of strong teaching skills are preferred.
  • Experience teaching students from diverse ages, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field or related discipline.
  • Doctoral degree in a relevant field or related discipline.
  • Experience teaching online courses.
  • Employment Requirement

    Satisfactory completion of a background check, including a criminal records check, is required. Conditional employment offers may be rescinded if disqualifying information is found or if false information is provided. Failure to pass the background check may affect employment.

    CSU hires only within California, in accordance with policy restricting out-of-state employment.

    Salary and Benefits

    Initial rank and salary are based on experience and education, typically at Lecturer A or B levels. As of July 2024, salary ranges are :

  • Lecturer A : $5,507 - $6,677
  • Lecturer B : $6,221 - $13,224
  • Lecturer C : $6,825 - $14,523
  • Lecturer D : $8,593 - $15,211
