Unit Description – Operating Room (OR) – Perioperative Services
Type of Care :
The Operating Room provides perioperative and intraoperative nursing care for patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.Nurses are responsible for maintaining a sterile, safe, and efficient surgical field while collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists.Care delivery follows Mount Sinai’s Relationship-Centered Care (RCC) model, emphasizing teamwork, communication, and patient safety.Patient Population :
Adult and geriatric surgical patients, including those undergoing general, orthopedic, neurosurgical, ENT, vascular, thoracic, cardiac, and transplant procedures .Cases range from elective to emergency surgeries.Shift & Schedule :
Start Date : 12 / 15 / 2025 | Contract Duration : 13 weeksOn-Call : RequiredWeekends / Holidays : Rotational; holiday coverage based on volunteersPrimary Responsibilities :
Provide comprehensive perioperative care including pre-op verification, intraoperative monitoring, and post-anesthesia handoff.Maintain sterile fields, monitor for breaches, and adhere to all surgical safety protocols.Serve as circulating nurse or scrub nurse as assigned.Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and ensure all equipment, instruments, and supplies are ready and functioning.Verify and document sponge, needle, and instrument counts.Ensure patient positioning, skin integrity, and safety throughout procedures.Manage patient specimens according to protocol.Provide accurate and timely documentation in Epic EMR .Support patient advocacy, infection control, and adherence to AORN standards.Skills & Procedures :
Circulator Duties : Patient assessment, room setup, prepping and draping, assisting anesthesia, intraoperative charting, equipment troubleshooting.Scrub Duties : Sterile technique, passing instruments, assisting surgeon directly during procedures.Intraoperative Monitoring : Vital signs, positioning, hemodynamic support.Specialty Case Experience (preferred) :Orthopedics
