Job description

Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, a part of Fairview Health Services, is looking for a Surgical Services Nurse Manager to join our team! Grand Itasca is a fully integrated multi-specialty clinic and hospital located in Northern Minnesota.

Job Summary

This position has responsibility and accountability for managing all aspects of Surgical Services daily operations. The management functions of this position include ensuring quality patient care delivery in accordance with professional standards, regulations and quality initiatives; personnel evaluation, assignments, staffing and scheduling; and ensuring patient care, financial and operational goals of the unit(s) supervised are met. Demonstrates clinical leadership that includes advocacy, critical thinking, decision-making and problem solving. Coordinates patient transitions across the continuum of care and makes shift-to-shift decisions concerning stewardship of resources.

Duties

  • Provides consistent clinical leadership to facilitate and evaluate delivery of care and associated systems in the unit to ensure that unit specific standards and regulations are met.
  • Coordinates and supports the House Supervisor and Charge Nurse for patient transitions across the continuum of care to provide a seamless transition for the patient.
  • Practices stewardship by using, promoting, and teaching effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Provides supervision of clinical staff to facilitate patient movement through the department in a timely and quality manner.
  • Responsible for personal conduct, which maintains adherence to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital's Human Resources policies. Promotes organizational effectiveness and maintains a high-quality work environment.

  • Qualifications

  • Registered with the Minnesota Board of Nursing. BSN Preferred, or ability to obtain within 3 years,
  • Equivalent of two (2) years surgical services nursing experience, four (4) years preferred. One (1) year leadership experience with demonstrated effectiveness in management, leadership and quality / safety improvement preferred.
  • Incident Command Systems (ICS) courses : IS-100HCb, IS-200HCa and IS-700a certifications preferred or achieved within 6 months.

  • Certification preferred in CNOR, CPAN or CAPA or ability to obtain within 3 years.
  • Knowledge of AORN and ASPAN standards and recommended practices are preferred. If no OR experience, Periop 101 course must be completed within 6 months.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Life Support (PALS) certification preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months and maintains certification.
  • Certification in Sterile processing, or ability to obtain within 2 years of employment. If noncertified, will be assigned education through Purdue University or other accredited organization after a minimum of 400 hours of departmental experience in instrument handling, assembly, decontamination, and sterilization to help exemplify knowledge of the department. (This would be needed to be complete to sit for the CRCST exam.)
  • Perform other related duties as required. This list is not all-inclusive, and any other task or job may be assigned in the future.
