Job Overview : The Equipment Operator operates a variety of contractor equipment and trucks used in construction, maintenance and repair activities. The equipment operator is responsible for operating specialized or oversized equipment to perform excavation around live utility lines, setting hand holes and terminals, potholing existing utilities, completing tie-in’s, & assisting HDD crews. Activities may include but are not limited to operating all forms of earthmoving equipment, specialty equipment & forklifts. The equipment operator may also be responsible for the operation of non-lifting, non-earth moving equipment including : mowing tractors, roller / compactor / street sweepers / tack-rig / marooka buggy etc. The complexity of the equipment operated is generally differentiated by tenure and talent . This is local to Corpus Christi, Texas Primary Job Function : Operate equipment in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life. Perform daily safety and maintenance checks. Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment. Practice workplace safety. Maintain inventory. Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, materials and supplies. Works with and assists the HDD crew in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a mini excavator. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Experience / Education : High school degree, diploma or a GED equivalent qualification from a certified college required. 8-10 Years experience Excavator, Backhoe, Forklift TWIC Competencies : Technical capacity. Time Management. Thoroughness. Customer / Client Focus. Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Physical Requirements : Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting and reaching. Occasional stair climbing, bending and stooping. Frequent activities requiring handling and grasping with the hands to turn wrenches and valves. Occasional lifting and pulling of up to 20 lbs., occasional lifting and pulling of up to 50 lbs. Exposure to flammables and high levels of noise less than 85 dBa and more than 70dBa. Clean driving record and back ground check to be able to drive company vehicle for job performance. Common eye, hand, finger, leg and foot dexterity exist. Communicating, hearing and seeing required for completion of essential functions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and some creative problem solving. Some daily aspects of the job pose threats or hazards capable of producing severe physical injury. Exposure to bright lights, extreme temperatures, loud noise, dust, gas and / or fumes. Exposure to construction sites. Work outdoors is required from 10-12 hours per day. Climbing into and out of equipment normally 3-4 feet off the ground with steps. Other Criteria : Must be able to travel to job sites as required.
