The University of South Dakota (USD) is hiring a Career Coach for the Center for Career Design. Located in southeastern South Dakota on the banks of the Missouri River, USD is based in Vermillion-a thriving community, voted the best small town arts scene this year by USA Today. Vermillion offers many amenities typical of a thriving and vibrant university town, including excellent schools, parks, Division I athletics, diverse restaurants, and more.
USD is South Dakota's flagship university and home to the state's only law and medical schools. USD offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as select programs through our second campus, USD Sioux Falls, located in the state's largest city. With a total enrollment of approximately 10,000 students, the school's size and culture foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and a strong sense of community. The main campus features a park-like setting, and nearly all facilities have benefited from extensive renovations and new construction in recent years.
The career coach will work in Vermillion within a team environment in a brand-new facility located on the first floor of the student center to deliver innovative and comprehensive approaches to career development and readiness that support and enhance the USD experience and prepare students for success in the workforce and in life.
POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Director of the Center for Career Design, the career coach will develop a career coaching approach that teaches students the skills to design a personal career pathway and supports students in applying these skills throughout their USD experience and during their job search. The career coach will also teach a life design course and design and lead a variety of workshops on topics that include career exploration, employment / internship searches, graduate school preparation and life design. At the institutional level, the career coach will contribute to collaborative student-facing initiatives to build career competencies and mentoring into all aspects of the student experience.
