Job Description

About Apex Skin :

At Apex Skin, our mission is to provide the highest quality dermatology and dermatologic surgery care to patients across Northeast Ohio. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional patient experiences, offering prompt access to care — including same-day appointments — and serving our communities through education and compassionate service. Our team is dedicated to creating a supportive, patient-focused environment where excellence, empathy, and teamwork thrive.

Apex Skin is a rapidly growing dermatology practice that empowers employees to deliver exceptional patient experiences. We are currently seeking talented candidates for the role of Medical Assistant. The Medical Assistant is responsible for both administrative and clinical duties, including maintaining patient records, preparing patients and exam rooms, assisting providers with procedures, and performing front-desk tasks. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Escort patients to exam rooms according to appointment order and obtain vital signs, short history, and medication updates.
  • Prepare exam rooms based on scheduled procedures and anticipate provider needs.
  • Assist providers with biopsies, surgical procedures, and other dermatologic treatments.
  • Transcribe during visits and ensure accurate documentation of patient care per legal and regulatory standards.
  • Educate patients following provider-established treatment plans, ensuring understanding of medication usage and compliance.
  • Maintain and update patient records, charts, and EMR documentation.
  • Provide emergency care appropriately and professionally as needed.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and adherence to Apex Skin policies, including OSHA and HIPAA compliance.
  • Monitor and complete lab documentation, biopsy / culture logs, telephone encounters, and team task boxes in the EMR.
  • Handle clinical phone calls in coordination with providers and follow up on biopsy results.
  • Perform autoclave procedures and maintain quality control standards.
  • Complete assigned clerical tasks such as prior authorizations, appointment scheduling, answering phones, and scanning documents.
  • Travel to other Apex Skin office locations as needed to support clinical operations.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Required :

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, stay organized, and manage time effectively.
  • Flexibility and professionalism in a patient-focused environment.
  • Customer service mindset with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic computer software and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of scheduling, word processing, and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Preferred :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • 2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant (dermatology experience preferred).
  • Current and valid documentation as a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant, or actively pursuing certification.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, handling paperwork, and operating office equipment.
  • Ability to clearly hear and speak on the phone for extended periods of time to assist patients and team members.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read computer screens, documents, and patient information accurately.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds (e.g., office supplies or files).
  • Work Environment :

  • Work is performed in a professional office or call center environment with moderate noise levels from phones, printers, and conversations.
  • Requires consistent focus and attention to detail while managing a high volume of patient calls and scheduling requests.
  • May experience occasional interruptions and time-sensitive situations requiring professionalism and composure.
  • Expected to maintain confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA and Apex Skin privacy standards.
  • Standard Monday–Friday schedule; occasional extended hours may be required based on patient or business needs.
  • Employee Health & Safety Requirements :

All patient-facing employees are required to provide proof of a TB test within the past 12 months and an annual flu vaccination as part of Apex Skin’s employee health and safety protocols. The Hepatitis B vaccination series is also strongly recommended for clinical staff due to potential occupational exposure risks. Apex Skin complies with federal and Ohio law by providing reasonable accommodations for medical conditions or sincerely held religious beliefs that prevent vaccination. Employees seeking an accommodation should contact Human Resources for more information.

    Equal Employment Opportunity Statement :

Apex Skin provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics. In addition to federal law requirements, Apex complies with applicable state and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment in every location in which the company has facilities. This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment, including recruiting, hiring, placement, promotion, termination, layoff, recall, transfer, leaves of absence, compensation and training.
