Georgia Capitol Police Officer
The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) oversees the day-to-day operation of the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Capitol Police and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVE). We currently have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for Capitol Police Officers with the Capitol Police Division.
The Capitol Police Division (CPD) consists of sworn law enforcement officers who have the primary responsibility of protecting life and property, preventing, and detecting criminal acts, and enforcing traffic regulations throughout Capitol Hill. This includes the apprehension of criminals, traffic enforcement and protection of public and building security in the Capitol Hill area. Capitol Police Officers perform a full range of assigned law enforcement duties to maintain security and order in the Capitol Hill area or other sector.

If you are already a POST certified peace officer, please carefully read the following : The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) is unable to reimburse other law enforcement agencies for training expenses as defined by 35-8-22. Therefore, DPS has determined that any currently certified peace officer as defined in 35-8-2 will not be considered for employment with DPS until at least 24 months after the completion of basic mandate training. This will not apply to candidates who were not employed by another Georgia law enforcement agency while completing basic mandate training. We strongly encourage you to re-apply once you have worked for your current agency for 24 months after completion of mandate training.
Minimum Qualifications :
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, possess a valid driver's license, be a citizen of the United States, and possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Applicants who are not POST certified in Georgia will be sent to a regional academy for their POST requirements. Applicants must complete the panel interview, background / polygraph investigation, medical / psychological evaluations and meet other requirements for certification as a peace officer set by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST).
Preferred Qualifications :
One year of sworn or non-sworn law enforcement experience or one year of college is preferred.
Medical Standards : Vision : minimum vision of 20 / 100 uncorrected in each eye, and corrected to 20 / 40 or better in both eyes with glasses or contact lenses. Additional medical standards must be met prior to final offer of employment.
Physical Fitness Standards : The Physical Fitness Program is an evaluation based on the recommendation of the Cooper's Institute in terms of absolute standards (same job = same standard). These standards are reflective of the minimum fitness level an individual must possess to perform their job regardless of their age or gender. The following events will comprise the assessment :

30 in one minute (hands held over the ears, rest in the up position)
Push Ups
21 in 1 minute (rest in the up position)
1.5 Mile Run
You will be required to run 1.5 miles within 15 minutes and 34 Seconds (15 : 34)
