Accounting Manager

We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations and reporting for a local government agency in Long Beach, California. In this long-term contract role, you will manage the agency's general accounting system, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with applicable standards. This position offers an opportunity to lead a dedicated team and contribute to strategic financial planning and execution.

Responsibilities :

  • Manage and maintain the agency's general accounting system, ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparation of audit schedules and facilitating annual audits.
  • Prepare and present monthly financial statements, analyzing variances and collaborating with stakeholders to address discrepancies.
  • Lead the development, preparation, and monitoring of the agency's annual budget.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements.
  • Develop, update, and document accounting policies and procedures to align with best practices.
  • Mentor and guide staff to ensure timely and high-quality completion of deliverables.
  • Generate and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports for accuracy and compliance.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the annual comprehensive financial report and other required documentation.
  • Promote adherence to safety regulations and ensure a safe work environment for all team members.

Requirements :

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting management or a related field.
  • Proficiency in month-end close, general ledger management, and financial statement preparation.
  • Strong knowledge of budget development, administration, and reconciliation processes.
  • Experience with financial audits and preparing audit schedules.
  • Familiarity with HCM SaaS Oracle Fusion or similar accounting software.
  • Advanced skills in journal entries, account reconciliation, and variance analysis.
  • In-depth understanding of GAAP, GASB, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor accounting teams to achieve organizational goals.
