CNA II | Med / Surg
JOB SUMMARY
The CNA II works in conjunction with the Nurse Director, Clinical Care Supervisor, RN and LPN. The Certified Nurse Assistant II performs a variety of skills / tasks for predictable residents / patients / clients with limited risk of complications and change. The CNA II may not be delegated CNA II skills for acutely ill patients. The CNA II works under the direction of a licensed nurse who must follow the principles of delegation. CNA II work is reflective of CCH mission, vision, and values. The CNA II will integrate departmental goals for improvement across the care continuum. The CNA II practices within the framework of the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act, and the National Patient Safety Goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
CNA II skills may include but are not limited to the following :
- Oxygen therapy
- Sterile Technique
- Wound care
- Oropharyngeal suctioning
- Tracheostomy care for patients with well-established tracheostomy
- Assisting with peripheral IV fluids (“Assisting with peripheral IVs refers to the set-up of equipment and discontinuing IVs. It does not include venipuncture or hanging IVs”)
- Ostomy care
Urinary catheter
Removes a urinary catheterObtains urine specimen from catheter port.Gastrostomy and percutaneous endoscopic gastronomy (P.E.G.) feeding tubes in a stable site
Elimination proceduresCapillary blood glucose testingResponding to mental health needsObserves patients and reports unusual conditions and / or reactions to RNProvides service excellence utilizing AIDET.Enhances patient safety by attending shift huddle, and performance of hourly rounding.Assists with admission, discharge and transfer of patients.Maintains a clean and safe environment.Performs routine cleaning tasks.Documents according to policy.Alerts staff when supplies are needed and replenishes stock.Demonstrates efficient time management and prioritization skillsMay be required to work on other nursing units.Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and / or financial practices.Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.Other duties as assigned. Education
In order to be certified as a CNA II a certified nursing assistant must :
Be eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of examinationHave a high school diploma or a GEDHave a current unencumbered Wyoming certified nursing assistant certificate (with on time renewal)Must have completed at least one thousand five hundred (1500) documented hours of work as a certified nursing assistantMust be a graduate from a state or board approved CNA II training and competency evaluation program
Thirty (30) hour course which shall have a minimum of :Fifteen (15) hours classroom instruction related to CNA II skillsFifteen (15) hours of supervised clinical practice related to CNA II skillsCertification
Wyoming Certification
Must register with the Wyoming Department of Health’s CNA Abuse Registry.Certifications required
