About the Role

We are seeking a Casting Manager to join our fast-growing in-house producing team in Los Angeles. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience casting for vertical short dramas and understands the fast-paced, high-volume nature of this format. You’ll oversee multiple concurrent projects across a range of genres, leading a small team of assistants while working closely with producers, directors, and our in-house Talent Manager to build and maintain a robust talent pool.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee Casting Operations : Manage the end-to-end casting process for multiple vertical short-drama productions simultaneously, including speaking and non-speaking roles.
  • Talent Strategy : Work with the in-house Talent Manager to expand, categorize, and maintain the company’s actor database across multiple genres and archetypes.
  • Genre Sensibility : Understand the nuances of different story genres (sweet romance, all-too-late, strong heroine, etc.) and identify the right talent for each.
  • Team Leadership : Supervise and train casting assistants to handle breakdowns, auditions, and talent coordination efficiently across multiple projects.
  • Workflow Integration : Collaborate with producers and directors to ensure seamless casting alignment within the in-house production workflow.
  • Data-Driven Development : Learn from show performance and audience insights to refine casting sensibilities and develop informed standards for “fit” and “screen presence.”
  • Administrative & Platform Management :
  • Manage casting pipelines via Google Sheets, Breakdown Services, and other casting platforms.
  • Maintain organized records, contracts, and breakdowns using Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Vendor Relations : Identify and liaise with external casting agencies, negotiate rates, and ensure talent costs align with project budgets.
  • Creative Collaboration : Participate in creative discussions about story-to-casting alignment, look tests, and performance tone.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of multi-project experience in casting for vertical short dramas or comparable high-volume digital content.
  • Strong grasp of storytelling genres and the talent archetypes that drive engagement in short-form content.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient with Breakdown Services , Casting Networks , Google Suite , and Microsoft Office Suite .
  • Skilled in script breakdowns , scheduling, and database management.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and coordinate across departments in a hybrid work environment.
  • A collaborative mindset with the potential to grow into a senior managerial role within the department.
  • Preferred Attributes

  • Prior experience in high-volume, data-driven content environments (e.g., streaming, short-form, digital studios).
  • Bilingual (English / Chinese) preferred but not required.
  • Passion for storytelling and developing emerging on-screen talent.
