Police Officer
Northwestern State University's Police Department is currently accepting applications for Police Officers. These positions are non-exempt under the provisions of the FLSA and may work rotating 12-hour shifts. These positions are subject to overtime, working weekends, holidays, and shift work.
Special Entrance Rate :
Police Officer 1 - $18.58 / hour
Police Officer 2 - $19.88 / hour
As part of a Career Progression Group, the vacancy may be filled from this recruitment as a Police Officer 1 or Police Officer 2 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant. Minimum Qualifications : No experience or training is required. Necessary special requirements : Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license. Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification. An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
Job Specification
Function of Work : To protect lives and property by conducting foot and mobile security patrols, enforcing parking and traffic regulations, rendering emergency services, investigating minor crimes, and making arrests when necessary. Provides a limited range of police services. Level of Work : Entry. Supervision Received : General from a higher-level police official. Other reporting relationships may be approved by SCS. Supervision Exercised : None. Location of Work : Statewide. Job Distinctions : Differs from Police Officer 2 by the absence of experienced level duties.
