Commercial Credit Lead
The Commercial Credit Lead plays a vital role in assessing and managing credit risk for commercial clients at M&T Bank. This individual contributor client facing position involves analyzing financial statements, structuring credit solutions, negotiating legal documents, and obtaining credit approval while ensuring compliance with credit policies and regulatory requirements. The Commercial Credit Lead manages a transaction team and collaborates closely with relationship managers, risk officers, and other stakeholders to facilitate sound credit decisions and maintain portfolio quality.
Primary responsibilities include facilitating the credit needs of customers by underwriting new requests and material modifications, managing the ongoing credit risk of existing loan portfolios through continuous credit monitoring activities, analyzing financial information and related materials, making appropriate structure recommendations, identifying suspicious activity, and partnering proactively with relationship managers and internal stakeholders.
The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field and 7 years' experience in complex credit underwriting, specialty underwriting, or other complex financial analysis role. In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 11 years' higher education and work experience, to include 7 years' experience in complex credit underwriting, specialty underwriting, or other complex financial analysis role is required. Excellent analytical skills with a high level of proficiency in financial modeling and analysis of credit transactions / structures are necessary. The successful candidate should also possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and strong organizational and time management skills.
M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $141,158.46 - $235,264.10 Annual (USD). The successful candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
