PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Aircraft Mechanic I troubleshoots malfunctions, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and structural components. This worker reads and interprets technical maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical orders, blueprints, sketches, engineering data and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctions or damaged components.
The mechanic will repair and fabricate routine composite / plastic parts and aircraft structures using pre-constructed fixtures, molds, and form blocks, by pouring liquid plastic compounds into molds or shaping, cutting, drilling, and installing composite aircraft cowlings, windshields, and canopies. The mechanic will make repairs by using common types of plastic resins and sheet stock such as polyesters, epoxies, and acrylics to complete routine repairs and assignments.
The mechanic will examine and prepare parts and items to locate defects; will prepare defective surfaces for successive operations by sanding, scraping, applying prepared solvents, and cleaning agents.
The mechanic will be required to follow work orders, as assigned by the Program Manager. All work is subject to Government QA review in process and upon completion for compliance with requirements, instructions, specifications, shop practices and procedures.
The mechanic shall work independently and complete all repairs and modifications in a timely manner; with minimal rework or discrepancies noted
