Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking to hire an Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) 2, whom will report to the Team Leaders in our diagnostic Blood Bank and Transfusion Services Laboratories and whom will have responsibilities for performing routine clinical pathology testing and instrument management of laboratory services under occasional guidance. The MLS 2 has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for the accurate performance of laboratory test methodologies. These tests are used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients and the evaluation of the patient's response to treatment. The MLS 2 applies clinical knowledge to achieve accurate clinical test results, which leads to quality patient care outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Provides patient-focused care in a clinical setting through the accurate performance of routine and complex tests through the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic stages.
*Performs qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures, including reagent preparation and appropriate quality control, according to required protocols, with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner.
*Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships as well as physiological conditions affecting test results.

Position Qualifications:
Required:
*Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) from accredited institution (Required)
* < 1 year relevant experience (Required)
oSuccessful completion of CAHEA or NAACLS accredited Medical Technology program or BS from accredited institution with major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science and ASCP technologist generalist or categorical certification or equivalent certification; or equivalent education and experience per CLIA and TN Medical Laboratory Board ( personnel performing high complexity testing.
Allowed 120 days to obtain State of Tennessee license. Considered 'in training' prior to license approval.
Preferred:
*MLS ASCP Certification and TN Medical Technologist (MT) state licensure
*Minimum of 1 year benchwork experience in the diagnostic blood bank laboratories

Position Shift:
VUMC, Main Campus in Nashville, Tennessee (TN), Blood Bank & Transfusion Services Lab, Fulltime, Monday-Friday, 3rd Shift, 11pm-7:30am CST, with every 3rd weekend & holiday rotations.

Consideration may be given to candidates that can obtain certification within 120 days, in accordance with state guidelines.
