Job Description
The Asset Strategy Leader (ASL) serves as the matrix leader with overall, enterprise wide accountability for an asset from discovery to end of life cycle.
Responsibilities
- Chairs an Asset Strategy Team (AST) and ensures alignment across the five core deliverable teams (Integrated Evidence, Value & Access, Brand, Label & Regulatory, and Product Presentation & Device), partnering effectively with the functional chairs of those subteams to ensure delivery of the asset. Serves as the enterprise leader who is the asset\'s primary point of contact for AbbVie\'s Pipeline Commercialization Model (PCM) Governance bodies and senior management.
- Leads the effort to create, articulate, and gain endorsement of an integrated cross-functional strategy for all aspects of product development and commercialization, consistent with the overall strategy articulated by PCM Governance and the Therapeutic Area Strategy Council (TASC.) Directs teams to navigate complex emergent situations and maintains primary responsibility for the ensuing deliverables, including a functionally aligned asset and brand strategy.
- Builds collaborative peer-to-peer relationships with governance team members and executives to enable timely, multi-directional interactions with PCM Governance at milestones or when issues arise.
- Reviews and analyzes emerging data to lead or direct the AST toward recommendations that highlight opportunities, address potential risks, and provide mitigations.
- Ensures the asset is appropriately resourced within budget; collaborates with supporting teams to ensure plans align with asset and brand strategy. Champions requests for incremental resources when appropriate.
- Ensures the AST validates the viability of the program from scientific and commercial perspectives. Develops Go / No-Go decision points and presents data to PCM Governance and senior management.
- Maintains empowerment and alignment among team members and supporting teams. Coaches and mentors team members. Enables AST to focus on strategy and decision-making and effective communication of issues.
- Represents the AST in interactions with external parties (e.g., Advisory Boards, regulatory interactions) when cross-functional contributions are needed. Demonstrates executive presence and clear communication.
- Keeps abreast of competitive environment and industry trends through conferences, literature, and training to augment expertise in drug development and the pharmaceutical industry. Understands asset positioning relative to competitors.
- Leads a single indication asset with significant revenue potential or a high-profile multi-indication asset.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree required; Advanced degree highly preferred (e.g., PhD, MBA).5+ years in pharmaceutical / biotech with deep experience in drug development and / or commercialization; 10+ years preferred. Experience across multiple therapy areas and development / commercialization stages; small molecule and / or biologic experience preferred.Strategic thinking, collaboration, leadership, executive presence, and problem-solving skills. Ability to assimilate new knowledge rapidly and apply to asset strategy.Experience leading cross-functional teams, ideally with global scope. Track record of leading asset teams in AbbVie or other organizations.Ability to exercise judgment, develop pragmatic solutions, and obtain stakeholder input to advance programs in uncertainty. Ability to stand alone when needed.Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams; strong delegation and accountability for decisions.Proven ability to navigate complex matrix environments with strategic success.Independent leadership with minimal oversight; constructive, respectful challenge to drive outcomes.Excellent English communication skills with executive presence.Additional Information
The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of posting, based on job grade.
