Position Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the organization by providing a variety of specialized and complex record keeping duties associated with processing and analyzing accounting transactions including review of budget to actual data, and reconciling schedules relating to the general ledger, grants, programs, and other donor related activity.

Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze departmental budget to actual reports according to finance policy, procedures, and schedule.
- Review general ledger detail for accuracy and compliance with organization policy and GAAP.
- Prepare journal entries as directed including a variety of complex and recurring accounting-related reports, and summaries.
- Prepare the monthly bank account reconciliations.
- Assist with or oversee the cyclical closing processes, monthly, quarterly, and annually.
- Manage, prepare and analyze reconciliation schedules for various general ledger accounts.
- Manage and backup the Accounts Payable process.
- Monitor and maintain weekly cash flow report.
- Assist in the preparation of schedules to support grants, programs, and donor related activity.
- Review monthly cash receipts process.
- Assist with Annual Budget and Annual Audit and other projects within the department.
- Maintain compliance with accounting standards, government regulations, and tax laws.
- Assist with the organization's disaster response efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field is preferred2+ years progressive accounting / bookkeeping experience in public accounting or similar work environmentKnowledge of not-for-profit accounting MIP software preferredStrong computer aptitude, which includes expertise with Microsoft Excel and Word as well as experience with accounting software and general ledgersStrong organization, oral and written communication skillsAbility to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlinesAbility to promote excellent performance in self and othersAbility to solve problems independently, effectively, and creativelyDemonstrated attention to details and ability to work in a fast paced environmentAbility to conduct research, study and synthesize data, and establish prioritiesFlexibility and ability to work on multiple high-priority projectsDemonstrated outstanding accounting skillsPhysical Demands and Work Environment
