Description :
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.
The RN provides care to these patients through the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, and resources within the institution's philosophy.
Essential functions include performing all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.
The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided is essential to assure proper integration of information for the healthcare team.
The RN completes an initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care based on patient and family needs.
The plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures are implemented by the RN.
The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
Safeguarding patient and employee safety by reporting and correcting safety hazards and incidents is crucial.
Effective communication with others directly and privately, when necessary, is essential to resolve issues.
The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand the knowledge base.
Identifying personal learning needs and taking the initiative to find appropriate solutions is important.
Fulfilling all requirements of departmental competencies is mandatory.
Department-specific job functions include assessing IV sites every 4 hours and starting new IVs per policy.
The RN must maintain documentation standards as evidenced by passing quarterly chart audits.
Attending 5 out of 6 staff meetings per year is required.
The RN identifies changes in patient status and responds appropriately.
