Summary
The Sr. Civil Engineer provides engineering support throughout the proposal, design and construction phase of projects. This includes review of available survey project development and topographic information, preparation of preliminary layouts, permitting support, environmental and hydrologic studies, site layout, value engineering, and construction documentation. Layouts to be performed in AutoCAD. Establish Civil engineering basis of design including site improvements, grading, access requirements permit and ordinance requirements. Manage the Civil Design Team to ensure due diligence and requirements are completed to facilitate project completion.
Job Responsibilities
- Functions as a lead role in overseeing the technical execution of projects.
- Develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to complex engineering problems
- Managing of internal engineering resources in the execution of planning, design, and quality assurance of solar PV
- Manage training to ensure design standards are aligned with best engineering practices
- Assist in establishing and documenting standard design procedures within the Civil engineering team.
- Collaborate and coordinate with project development, procurement, project management, construction, and O&M teams
- Provides technical guidance to engineers
- Provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, and codes
- Performs research and develops recommendations on equipment and materials selection
- Work with the Sr. Director of Engineering in analyzing workloads, and design cycle schedules of the civil team.
- Coordinate with third party engineering services as needed.
- Communicate with civil / electrical team members and designers to coordinate activities between the two teams.
- Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and problem solving.
- Have a high degree of familiarity with industry standards and local ordinances and requirements regarding PV Solar Systems.
- Provide guidance on issues faced during engineering design, construction, and placed in service projects.
- Review conceptual project designs from other developers to ensure design is within NES Engineering, NEC and local standards.
- Analyze and review various software, equipment and procedures for possible into NES standard workflows and policies / procedures.

This position manages the Civil design team (Engineers and CAD drafters) within the department.

This is a full-time position and may require longer hours and occasional weekend work.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s and / or degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.3+ years of experience in solar PV system design.Must be proficient in AutoCAD and related Autodesk software.Demonstrated civil, structural and mechanical design skills, and the ability to generate accurate, highly detailed construction drawings.Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.Registration as an Engineer in training and following a pathway towards professional registration is recommendedAdditional Eligibility Qualifications
