Job Description : Field Coordinator
Reports To : President / Project Manager Department : Field Operations FLSA Status : Full-Time / Exempt
Position Summary
The Field Coordinator ensures survey crews are scheduled, equipped, and supported to meet project deadlines and quality standards. Acting as the main point of communication between Project Managers and field staff, this role focuses on scheduling, logistics, and documentation so that field operations run smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain daily / weekly crew schedules in coordination with Project Managers.
- Assign crews to projects based on workload, skillsets, and equipment availability.
- Prepare and distribute field packages, including project notes, control points, and deliverable requirements.
- Track crew progress throughout the day and provide status updates to Project Managers.
- Ensure field data, notes, and sketches are collected, organized, and returned for office processing.
- Monitor resource allocation to avoid conflicts in crew scheduling or equipment usage.
- Ensure crews have the proper safety equipment (hard hats, vests, PPE) and survey tools before departing for assignments.
- Coordinate vehicle use and assist with basic truck maintenance scheduling to minimize downtime.
- Maintain an updated log of ongoing projects, crew assignments, and deadlines.
- Support Project Managers with field-related follow-up, clarifications, or adjustments as needed.
- Manage and support field technology (data collectors, tablets, uploads), ensuring devices are updated, connected, and ready for use.
- Plan and optimize crew routing to minimize travel time, balance workloads, and ensure efficient completion of daily assignments, adjusting schedules as needed for weather, traffic, or project changes.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in land surveying, construction, or project coordination.Strong organizational and time-management skills.Familiarity with surveying workflows and terminology.Ability to communicate clearly with both managers and field personnel.Proficiency with office tools (MS Office, project management software).Valid driver's license.Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience scheduling or coordinating multiple survey crews across boundary, topographic, and construction projects.Familiarity with survey software platforms such as Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or comparable field-to-finish workflows.Understanding of survey-related permitting requirements, right-of-way standards, and construction documentation.Work Conditions
