Job Summary

Our Ski and Snowboard School youth division (Cub Club) offers half- and full-day ski and snowboard lessons for students ages 4-12. This position is devoted to successfully overseeing the many aspects of the Ski & Snowboard School lesson programs and guest experience at Bear Valley Mountain Resort. This role is primarily responsible for scheduling and motivating youth instructors to teach snow sports using the PSIA / AASI Teaching Model, and age-appropriate teaching tools / techniques. The position requires working closely with other supervisors to ensure a positive guest experience, up to and including the lesson. The ideal candidate must possess a PSIA-AASI Level I or higher, enthusiasm and motivation for growing the sport, and excellent communication skills to serve as liaison between guests, instructors and management of all levels. Pay rate based on skills and experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service with an emphasis on creating a fun and friendly environment for children
• Review student information forms and perform verbal assessments to ensure students are in the correct class levels for age and ability
• Manage lesson programs, including daily coordination with instructors and other supervisors
• Create and confirm instructor schedules
• Maintain lesson inventory based on demand and instructor availability
• Maintain accurate field sheets for payroll activities, including weekly ADP entry
• Accurate reporting of lessons including no-shows, special requests, and conflicts as necessary
• Oversee and collaborate with Cub Club Rental Lead to ensure Cub Club is a welcoming and positive space for instructors and guests
• Obtain binding certifications for all ski and snowboard equipment in Cub Club
• Coordinate indoor space set-up & clean-up daily
• Work with other S&S School supervisors to schedule relevant ongoing training
• Maintain Safety Meeting and safety topic records, including Training Logs
• Report on product performance and feedback from instructors and guests
• Assist with Performance Evaluations of instructors including regular lesson observation
• Collaborate with supervisors to keep instructors informed of resort news and events, both Mountain and Village
• Liese with Human Resources to ensure instructors have correct information pertaining to their role
• Make recommendations on Cub Club and learning area purchases to assist with positive lesson facilitation
• Available to teach lessons as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Skills and Competencies

Work Schedules

Weather, snow conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work scheduling of Bear Valley Mountain Resort employees.

When conditions are normal, the expected commitment is 32-40 hours per week including weekends and holidays. During busy periods – particularly the holiday periods – you may be expected to work six (6) days a week.

You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time. Keep in mind that you will often be required to drive on hilly, snowpacked, and icy roads.

Working Conditions

Bear Valley Mountain Resort employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.

This position requires the physical fitness to ski and / or snowboard for five to seven hours a day and be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.

Uniforms

A professional appearance at Bear Valley Mountain Resort is required, and most uniform items will be provided for you to do your job. This uniform is for work hours ONLY, no exceptions.

You will be required to provide some items as part of your job, including skis / snowboard, boots, helmet and eye protection – all in good condition and working order.

Housing

Some shared housing options are available to qualified Bear Valley Mountain Resort employees who can pass a background check and sign a lease agreement. Please indicate whether you are interested in receiving more detailed information on housing.

The skiing / riding employee represents a model of safety for guests and fellow employees. You are required to be aware of all safety procedures, trail closures, and out-of-bounds policies of the mountain.
