Summary
A career as a Special Inspector at Alta E&I means you will be the day-to-day eyes and ears on job sites by providing inspections of various construction activities. Inspectors prepare reports documenting both structural special inspection and construction materials testing in accordance with building code requirements and project specific construction documents. Inspections may require expertise in one or more of the following areas : soils, reinforced concrete and / or masonry, structural steel, fireproofing, etc. Inspectors work under the supervision and direction of a Professional Engineer and / or Project Manager, although work activities are generally performed unsupervised (i.e. employee is in the field as the Company's Representative).
Essential Roles and Responsibilities :
- Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and the specified procedures.
- Reads and interprets construction drawings and specifications.
- Drafts inspection reports for review by senior inspector and / or Project Managers, providing clear documentation of findings and results.
- Performs basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
- Communicates information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed by the Project Manager.
- Strictly adheres to OSHA and company safety guidelines and policies. Able to successfully complete internal safety certifications. Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects.
- Performs pre-task planning prior to executing work. Reports any safety issues or concerns to management.
- Responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects
- Manages Personal field equipment.
- Demonstrates ability to obtain and keep in good standing professional certifications such as :
- ICC certification (Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed / Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, and / or Structural Steel – Welding).
- American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- Post Tension Inspector Level 1 or 2 (PTI)
- Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be needed as available.

A minimum of 2-4 years’ experience as an Engineering Technician or other applicable experience. Candidates with 5+ years of experience may be considered for a senior level positionHigh School Diploma or GED required.Valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)Previous experience with certifications pertaining to : Arizona Technical Testing Institute (ATTI), American Concrete Institute (ACI), Radiation Safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation certificationWork Environment :
Indoors, outdoors, extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, outdoor, sun exposureFrequently work on elevated surfaces and / or confined spacesPhysical Requirements :
