Property And Equipment Management Accountant

Accounting Services is a function of Financial Services, which provides critical accounting and finance support to the University. Faculty, staff and the various contracting parties of the University are considered customers of Accounting Services. Under that concept, Accounting Services seeks to provide the highest level of customer service.

Performs a variety of accounting activities, which require moderate professional competence of accounting theories and principles. Examines, analyzes, and interprets accounting records for the purpose of ensuring compliance with accounting standards. Prepares income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements, and various other specialized accounting statements and reports. Provides general accounting support to units across campus and supports central accounting functions.

Responsibilities include :

• Supports all areas in the Accounting Department : Capital, Endowments, Tax and General Accounting.
• Performs monthly journal entries and reconciliations for centralized bank and balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting policies.
• Performs periodic maintenance and updates within the financial system as requested.
• Assists with the timely completion of accounting inquiries via the accounting services ticketing system.
• Participates in ongoing maintenance of the ERP system.
• Assists with the preparation of schedules and reports related to the year-end financial statements and / or Form 990 tax return.
• Provides accounting support to University units.
• Performs a variety of operating or cost accounting activities which require moderate knowledge of accounting theories and principles.
• Interprets accounting records for the purpose of determining gains and losses, receipts and disbursements, and inventory.
• Has a moderate / high level of authority in drafting income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements, and various other accounting statements and reports.
• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum qualifications include : a college or university degree in a related field and 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred qualifications include : a bachelor's degree in accounting, two years of work experience in a non-profit organization such as a university or a governmental entity, public accounting experience, knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred competencies include : excellent organization and communication skills, attention to detail, strong analytical and problem solving skills, independently develop and analyze alternative solutions and make recommendations, establish and maintain relationships at all organizational levels, and flexibility and ability to work effectively and gracefully under considerable time pressure on high visibility, high stakes projects.
