Description :

Unit : Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with 8 beds and an average census of 2 patients.

Certificates required include BLS and PALS.

Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1 to 2.

The electronic medical record system used is Cerner.

Charge nurse duties are rare.

There are no nurse aides on the unit.

Weekend requirements include every other weekend.

Holiday requirements are 2 out of 3.

Scrub color is navy blue.

Telemetry is managed through Spacelab tele monitors, and nurses are responsible for reading their own strips.

Ventilator care is part of the unit's responsibilities.

Pediatric Hospitalists and intensivists are in-house 24 / 7.

An IV team is not present.

Respiratory therapists are available 24 / 7.

Pharmacy services are accessible around the clock.

Staff may be asked to be on standby if the census is low.

Shifts include 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Floating may include general pediatrics and burn units for non-burn care, as well as voluntary floating to the NICU.

Travelers are the first to float when required.

Floor-specific orientation includes 2 shifts in pediatrics and 1 shift in burn for pediatric cases.

Common diagnoses and types of patients include respiratory failure, dehydration, seizures, suicide attempts, overdoses, poisoning, diabetic ketoacidosis, and those on ventilators.

Common titratable and / or set drips include insulin, sedative agents, and heparin.

Rarely used drips include vasopressin, norepinephrine, and epinephrine, along with a significant amount of electrolyte replacements.

Cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled during a 13-week assignment, with specific conditions for shorter assignments.

Charting system in use is Cerner.

A BSN is not required for this position.

This position involves care in an acute setting.
