Job description

Base pay range

$200,000.00 / yr - $220,000.00 / yr

This position supervises accounting staff and directs the quality of the organization’s financial operations, to include production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, enhances the accuracy of the organization’s financial reporting, and ensures the organization complies with generally accepted accounting principles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the financial oversight, planning and stability of the organization and its affiliated entities.
  • Establishes and maintains a financial team structure that successfully supports the finance functions of the organization and strategic projects and initiatives.
  • Creates a mission focused climate and develops a team supportive of all mission programs.
  • Prepares timely, accurate financial reports and analysis for the CEO, Board, Finance Committee and Audit Committee; as well as the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Protect assets by establishing, monitoring and enforcing internal controls.
  • Maintain executive responsibility for financial operations, including cash and treasury management; payroll, audit & tax, control compliance and budgets, financial systems automation, process improvements.
  • Manage cash flow by routinely reviewing the status of the accounts receivable aging and ensuring proper collection of accounts through the staff, reviewing daily bank balances.
  • This position has direct supervisory responsibility for the Director of Finance & Accounting Compliance, Director of Special Projects, and Director of Payroll.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or a Certificate of Advanced Accounting Proficiency
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) valid and in “active status”.
  • Experience with A-133 audits, A-122 cost principles and Form 990.
  • Hands‑on experience with financial management, payroll and G / L software.
  • Diplomacy, coaching and counseling, and conflict resolution skills.
  • High level of organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • This position is expected to be in the office (Washington, DC) 3-4 days per week.
