General Summary

This role will be instrumental in transforming Unum and driving strategic value and competitive advantage leveraging emerging / established technologies / commercial capabilities and creative solves for challenging problems. You will partner closely with Corporate Strategy, Unum business leaders, IT Delivery, Transformation leadership, and Unum IT architecture to conceptualize, POC and Pilot these digital products. This role will have direct management responsibilities for a team of Digital Product Innovators, full stack architects, and engineers.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Stay abreast of emerging technology landscape and startup ecosystem and publish informed points of views. Lead brainstorming sessions and collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate innovative ideas to revolutionize insurance operations, customer engagement, and business models through emerging technologies. Stay at the forefront of emerging technologies and trends in Insurtech, fintech, and related fields. Continuously evaluate their relevance to the insurance industry. Develop and refine concepts for new digital initiatives and solutions, aligning them with the company's strategic goals. Sets vision, reimagine digital products / solutions and tests out key concepts with customers and other constituents. Rapidly prototype and experiment with new ideas, technologies, and business models. Conduct proof-of-concept (POC) trials to validate feasibility and potential impact. Lead the incubation of promising projects, guiding multidisciplinary teams through the development process, from ideation to minimum viable product (MVP) creation. Collaborate closely with technology, data science, Journey, marketing, and business development teams to ensure seamless integration of digital innovations into existing operations. Assess the potential risks and regulatory implications associated with new technologies and solutions. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and data security standards. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of incubated projects. Iterate and refine strategies based on performance feedback. Build and mentor a high-performing team of digital innovators and technologists. Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation. Provide regular updates and reports to senior leadership on the progress of incubation projects, their potential ROI, and strategic alignment. Push the "art of possible" with various stakeholders and influence Senior executives and business leaders around strategies, and investments on successful innovations.

Job Specifications

5-7+ years of experience in Digital Product Innovation / Management / Digital Consulting / Entrepreneurship and 8+ years of leadership experience. Multi-disciplinary Engineering / Software degree / experience plus MBA. Master's degree, or a bachelor's Degree plus relevant professional experience that would be equivalent to a Masters required. Strategic innovator with demonstrated experience of pushing the boundaries and reimagining the art of possible. Proven track record of leading digital innovation initiatives in a corporate or startup environment. Strong knowledge of emerging technologies e.g., AI, blockchain, IoT, and data analytics and a passion for how they can be applied to solve real world problems. Strong storytelling and communication skills to evangelize their vision at all levels. Proven ability to communicate complex, technical information in easily understood manner. Quick learner, high tolerance to ambiguity, Self-driven, hustler who can push through organizational barriers. Acumen for building relationships with peers, business partners, and the external world. Inherent bias for action and understands the need for speed and urgency. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment. Exhibits courage by taking smart risks and encourages others to do so; empowers innovative approaches by motivating others to be proactive and resourceful. Ability to apply broad business understanding of internal and external trends and financial considerations to leverage business process and technology opportunities, meet evolving customer needs, and ensure successful implementation of plans.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience. $163,700.00-$336,000.00 Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
