Overview

Engineering Design Tech - New Business (Multiple Locations)

Be among the first 25 applicants. This role develops designs, layouts, construction drawings, and a bill of materials for relatively complex utility infrastructure projects on Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, gas and telecommunication facilities. The position may require extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or energy delivery emergencies.

Primary Duties

  • Develops designs, layouts, construction drawings, and a bill of materials for relatively complex systems and for multiple smaller projects or portions of larger projects related to installation / removal / modification of utility infrastructure. This may include activities with customer contact, scheduling, engineering and construction of New Business installations, removals and relocations. (80%)
  • Interprets and applies engineering standards and memos. (10%)
  • Assists with technical consultation, plan developments and recommendations for customer and company systems and processes; e.g., verify and validate studies, blueprints, or designs against accepted engineering principles and practices. (5%)
  • Evaluates effectiveness of current design processes; participates on teams (e.g., design high voltage transmission and distribution circuits, meeting all engineering standards and criteria). (5%)

Job Scope

  • Develops construction drawings and material requirements for relatively complex systems associated with utility infrastructure installation, removal or modification. Works independently under the direction of a lead engineer.
  • May respond to customer needs for service by evaluating standard versus required facilities to develop charges for customers with financial and operational impact.
  • Responsible for financial requirements associated with projects that support the Asset Investment Committee (AIC) / Project Review Committee (PRC) process.
  • Applies technical knowledge to promote a safe work environment and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a technical field with 0-3 years of technical experience, an associate's degree in a technical field with 2-5 years of relevant technical experience, or 5-7 years of technical experience or equivalent education if non-degreed or in a non-technical / engineering field.
  • Successful completion of the Technician Occupations Selection Systems (TECH) test. A bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university exempts the TECH test requirement.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches.
  • Knowledge of construction, operations or engineering principles and practices.
  • Proficient computer-aided design (CAD) skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications

    Relevant education / experience includes knowledge or skills gained through job experiences or education programs similar to a formal technical degree. Relevant experience includes military roles (transmission, distribution, gas, power systems, etc.), project management, journey-level electrician or gas technician, field operations, or other utility-related experience. Relevant educational experiences include company-sponsored training programs (e.g., PowerUp Academy) or other relevant programs. The equivalent relevant education / experience requirement is in addition to the minimum.
