Responsibilities :

GENERAL The role and mission of LSCO place major emphasis on the teaching component. Therefore, the instructional faculty position at LSCO emphasizes teaching, scholarship, and service. The apportionment of responsibilities may be modified for a specific position and for a specific semester due to classes not making or other variables that affect teaching assignments. Faculty will be expected to teach assigned classes according to approved course syllabi or the instructional dean.Each faculty member will schedule office hours, including the regular working hours (Mon-Fri 8 : 00 – 5 : 00), not excluding evening hours when classes are in session. During these office hours, the faculty member will be available to counsel students and will be available for departmental, divisional, and institutional obligations. Refer to the current faculty handbook for minimum office hour requirements. Additional events, committee meetings, professional development sessions, graduations, convocations, etc., require the attendance of faculty outside of their posted office hours or the typical working day.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

A. Teaching :

• Classroom preparation, supervision, and instruction in face-to-face, online, hybrid, or HyFlex deliveries, as needed and determined by the College Administration.
• Field-based or off-campus instruction, as needed and determined by the College Administration.
• Laboratory design, preparation, instruction, supervision, and other associated responsibilities related to courses assigned.
• Student performance measurement, including :

Preparation, administration, timely grading, and evaluation of classroom assignments, tests, papers, examinations, research projects, etc.,

Mentor Future Welders : Support students through hands-on training, advising, and participating in apprenticeship programs to ensure they are workforce ready.

Work with other faculty in the Agriculture and Manufacturing Department to improve outcomes and training.

Responsibilities

Participating in the preparation and delivery of high-quality learning experiences aligned with the welding curriculum.

Evaluating student performance in relation to course objectives and providing clear feedback.

Offer academic and career advice and counseling to support student success.

Maintaining accurate records of student grades, attendance, and performance.

Creating an environment conducive to learning while fostering a professional, positive relationship with students, colleagues, and the community.

Staying informed about technological advancements and innovative teaching methodologies to enhance instructional quality.

Qualifications :

Education : Bachelor’s degree or higher in teaching discipline

Qualifying Discplines :

Welding, Welding Technology, Metals Science (Metallurgy or Materials Science), Pipe Fitting; Industrial Education, Industrial Technology, Industrial Arts, Agriculture

or hold a college certificate or an industry-recognized credential / certificate in the teaching discipline or related field plus have 3 years of relevant full-time work experience

Industry Experience in Welding, Welding Fabrication, Pipe Fitting or Pipe Welding

College or other teaching or experience is preferred.

For technical programs, pertinent job experience outlined in the minimum faculty credential standards is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the unique needs of students with diverse backgrounds. Must comply with established college standards and policies.

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting, standing, walking, talking and seeing. Requires some lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying heavy objects, driving, operating equipment, , and other office equipment. Requires stooping and bending.

Lamar State College Orange (LSCO) is seeking a dedicated and skilled faculty member to join our Welding program. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing students for success in the dynamic field of welding. We are looking for an individual with expertise in one or more of the following areas :

Welding Techniques :

Proficiency in various welding processes, such as MIG, TIG, stick, and flux-cored arc welding, with an emphasis on proper technique, safety standards, and quality welds.

Weld Inspection and Quality Control :

Experience in inspecting welds, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and troubleshooting weld imperfections to maintain structural integrity and performance.

Blueprint Reading and Fabrication :

Skilled in interpreting welding blueprints, specifications, and diagrams, as well as hands-on metal fabrication techniques for constructing and assembling welded components.

Welding Equipment and Safety :

Knowledge of operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting welding equipment, including ensuring adherence to safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Technical Training and Mentorship :

Proven ability to develop and deliver technical training programs that enhance students’ welding skills and knowledge, preparing them for industry certifications and careers.
