Position Summary
The Manager, People Strategy plays a vital role in creating an exceptional employee experience and advancing the mission of HRC and the People Strategy team. Reporting to the Deputy Director of People Strategy, this position leads core benefits administration, including managing benefit plans in the HRIS, coordinating annual Open Enrollment, overseeing retirement plan administration, processing invoices, and executing compliance filings. The Manager also builds and maintains vendor relationships, supports wellness initiatives, and ensures staff receive clear, timely communication about benefits and programs.
Beyond benefits, the Manager, People Strategy supports a wide range of human resources functions, including onboarding and new hire orientation, HRIS data integrity and reporting, employee engagement initiatives, and policy communication and regular staff updates. They serve as a trusted resource for staff and supervisors, offering guidance on policies and workplace matters while reinforcing the organization’s culture and values.
Position Responsibilities
Benefits Administration
- With the support of the Deputy Director and VP, People Strategy, lead and manage benefits administration, including but not limited to : Building and maintaining benefits plan administration within the HRIS.
- Correctly assign retirement plans to staff HRIS profiles.
- Execution of Open Enrollment each year.
- Audit, reconcile, and process all benefits invoicing for accuracy.
- Assist in the enrolling and onboarding of 457b plan participants.
- Execute end of year ACA process and IRS Filing.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors and broker contacts.
- Process benefits contracts in Outlaw system.
- Coordinate and facilitate Wellness events, programs, and administration.
- Develop and provide communications to staff around benefits offerings and events.
- Collaborate with Operations team to maintain and build out the Wellness Space.
General
Manage data and ensure data integrity within the HRIS system and provide technical support, troubleshooting, and guidance to HRIS users.Assist with handling contracts for vendors and maintain and manage check requests and vendor invoices.Compile metrics and produce various reports.Lead new hire orientations and assist supervisors with employee onboarding coordination.Maintain, process, and execute the Kudos Awards program.Own and execute This Week @ HRC – the People Strategy newsletter.Facilitate monthly People Strategy updates in All-Staff Meeting.Answer questions from staff and supervisors, provide information, interpretation of policies, and advice about the workplace.Reinforce company culture and values and work to support a positive work environment and morale among staff.Enforce company policies and work to reduce company threats and liabilities.Familiarize employees with policies, procedures, and the collective bargaining agreement via effective communication.Stay up to date with the latest HR trends and best practices.Assist in developing departmental goals, objectives, and budget.Maintain confidentiality and security of all employee and proprietary company information.Support People Strategy special projects as needed (e.g. OSHA, etc)Other duties as assigned.Position Qualifications
At least two years of progressive Human Resources experience. PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.Knowledge of and experience working with LGBTQ+ community / issues is preferred. Sincere openness to learn about administering HR services to diverse groups of employees is required.Experience with a human resources information system is required. Experience with the UKG Ready platform is a plus.Experience working in a union environment is a plus but not required.A demonstrated understanding of federal and local employment laws.Strong professional ethics and sensitivity in dealing with confidential information.Demonstrated ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive issues.Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to analyze problems, gather pertinent data, and recommend solutions.Strong organizational skills are required to meet recurring deadlines and maintain tracking systems related to human resources information.Strong attention to detail is required.Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of the organization.Ability to maintain composure, positive attitude, and good judgment when dealing with deadlines, dissatisfied employees, or fast paced environments.Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities as needed.Proficient with MS Office Suite and Google Apps (Gmail, Google Docs and Drive)Some travel may be required (typically less than 10% of the year).All positions at the Human Rights Campaign may require travel on a regular basis or periodically.
