Staff Legal Liability Trial Attorney

Liability Trial Attorney – Boston, MA

Zurich is looking for a Liability Trial Attorney to work out of our Staff Legal office in Boston, Massachusetts. This Trial Attorney will be responsible for representing the commercial insureds of a prestigious and financially stable commercial insurance carrier, by preparing and trying moderate complexity General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases.

The selected candidate will perform duties encompassing all aspects of insurance defense, including initial investigation and legal analysis and advice, preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents, performing legal research, preparing for and conducting pre‑trial discovery, preparing for and aggressively handling hearings and trials, and conducting post‑trial activities where appropriate. The role requires demonstrated case analysis ability, a track record of proven trial and negotiation skills, and the ability to work independently and without substantial supervision.

Requirements for remote work include strong computer skills and experience using video conferencing, task assignment, and other computer‑based systems.

• Basic Qualifications :
• Juris Doctor and 5 or more years of experience in the Litigation area
• Member in good standing of the Massachusetts State Bar
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe
• Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw
• Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and insurance defense litigation legal environment
• Knowledge of the law and procedure
• Preferred Qualifications :
• Member of the Rhode Island and / or New Hampshire State Bar Associations
• Experience with general commercial litigation
• Well organized with good analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication, proactive approach to file handling and caseloads, able to work independently and within a team
• Demonstrates effective negotiating skills
• Ability to budget costs and calculate exposure for clients
• Understands the staff counsel function and role in overall business
• Experience working in a paperless environment
• Experience in a remote working environment

Compensation : $98,300.00 - $161,000.00, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%
