Engineering Roadway Equipment Management Trainee hiring rate of $80,000. Within approximately 12 months, opportunity to promote to next level range at rate of $80,000 - $102,800.

Program Overview

As an Engineering Management Trainee on the Roadway Equipment Team at BNSF Railway, you will explore the safety and operational foundation of one of North America\'s leading freight rail networks. This role combines hands-on fieldwork, providing you with an opportunity to learn about the operation, maintenance, and strategic deployment of our extensive fleet of engineering machinery. Under the guidance of experienced engineers, you will gain insights and skills, directly contributing to the optimization of rail safety and efficiency. This experience will accelerate your professional growth in railway engineering and open doors to future leadership positions within the industry.

This is a full-time (40 hrs / wk) position in a 24x7 operations environment, subject to on-call, overtime, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Travel and relocation are required. After the 6-month program, candidates must be flexible with their location, as they could be moved depending on business needs. Must have reliable transportation to and from work and travel up to 75% of the time.

Training Timeline

  • Begin with an invigorating one-week orientation at our Fort Worth headquarters, immersing yourself in BNSF culture and forging connections with industry leaders.
  • Sharpen your skills at our Technical Training Center for three weeks in Overland Park, delving into technical intricacies and personnel management.
  • The remainder of your journey entails immersive on-the-job field training, offering hands-on experience across diverse departments.

Key Responsibilities

Primary duty of this position will be assisting in the supervision of the Maintenance and Roadway Equipment forces.

Assist with supervising our workforce which is necessary for the repair and maintenance of roadway equipment.

Maintain all roadway equipment to acceptable preventive maintenance standards while operating within authorized budget limits.

Participate in all safety, quality, technical, and other required training for Roadway Equipment Team Members.

Supervise compliance with the preventive maintenance program.

Address and resolve all equipment safety and ergonomic concerns, utilizing appropriate channels.

Assist traveling mechanics in troubleshooting of equipment problems.

Define and develop new methods, components, and work processes to improve the safety, quality, and reliability of roadway equipment.

Review and approve purchases, material requisitions and daily time entry of assigned employees.

Spend time at the Brainerd Roadway Equipment shop working with the local PMC to gain a thorough understanding of the shop and its impact on the BNSF Engineering Department.

Daily work is conducted in an indoor / outdoor safety sensitive environment with potential for extreme weather and working around heavy / moving machinery.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications :

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire, with a valid Driver\'s License or will have a valid Driver\'s License upon hire.
  • Does not require BNSF\'s sponsorship to obtain or maintain employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT / CPT, or TN status).
  • Capable of working in a 24 / 7 environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and can safely perform duties outdoors in all weather conditions or in a shop, terminal, or field environment. Travel up to 75% of the time may be required.
  • Able and willing to relocate anywhere on the BNSF Railway operating system (western 28 states) upon hire or career progression.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor\'s or Graduate degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, etc.), Construction Management, Business, or a related field, or have already obtained such a degree.
  • Have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  • Have less than three (3) years of professional work experience / military service (excluding internships, part-time jobs, or positions held during studies).
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Prior internship experience or less than 3 years of work experience in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, Construction, Logistics or a related field.
  • Have or have held a leadership position in a campus, community, or extracurricular organization.
