Job description

CMM Programmer / Quality Control (Aerospace & Defense) Position Summary

We are a precision CNC manufacturing facility serving the aerospace and defense markets, seeking a skilled CMM Programmer to support our quality and inspection operations. Operating within an ISO 9001:2000 / AS9100 certified environment, this role is heavily focused on developing, maintaining, and executing CMM inspection programs for complex, tight-tolerance machined components.

This position is ideal for a quality professional who enjoys the technical side of inspection—programming CMMs, interpreting GD&T, and ensuring inspection data is accurate, repeatable, and audit-ready.

Core Responsibilities

  • CMM Programming & Optimization: Develop, edit, and maintain CMM inspection programs using PC-DMIS (or similar software) to support in-process and final inspection of precision CNC-machined parts. Optimize programs for efficiency, accuracy, and repeatability.

  • Advanced CMM Inspection: Set up and run CMM inspections for complex, multi-axis components with tight tolerances, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings and customer requirements.

  • First Article Inspection (FAI): Lead the creation, validation, and maintenance of First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs), ensuring all dimensional and documentation requirements are fully met.

  • Blueprint & GD&T Analysis: Interpret detailed engineering drawings and apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 to create effective inspection strategies and programs.

  • Inspection Data & Reporting: Analyze inspection results, document findings, and clearly communicate results to machining, engineering, and quality teams.

  • Nonconformance Support: Identify dimensional issues, support root cause investigations, and assist with corrective and preventive actions related to inspection and measurement.

  • Quality System Compliance: Maintain inspection records, CMM program documentation, and calibration records in support of ISO 9001 / AS9100 requirements and customer audits.

  • Calibration & Verification: Support calibration and ongoing verification of CMMs and precision measurement equipment to ensure measurement integrity.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with machinists, programmers, engineers, and quality staff to support new part launches, process improvements, and on-time delivery.

  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to improving inspection methods, CMM programming standards, and overall quality workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in a CMM programming or advanced inspection role within a CNC machining environment.

  • Industry Knowledge: Background in aerospace and/or defense manufacturing with experience working to strict tolerance and documentation standards.

  • Technical Expertise: Strong proficiency in CMM programming software such as PC-DMIS and a solid understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5).

  • Quality Systems: Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management systems and inspection documentation.

  • Machining Familiarity: Experience inspecting parts produced on CNC mills, lathes, and multi-axis equipment.

  • Detail-Oriented: Proven ability to produce accurate, consistent inspection programs and results.

  • Communication Skills: Ability to clearly document inspection data and communicate technical information across teams.

  • Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work overtime or weekends as production demands require.

Preferred Experience

  • Advanced CMM program development and troubleshooting

  • Calibration of precision measurement equipment

  • Exposure to modern CNC equipment (Mori Seiki, Fadal, Star, Flow, Amada, Mitsubishi, or similar)

  • Participation in customer audits or aerospace/defense quality reviews

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive hourly pay based on experience

  • 401(k) with company match

  • Annual bonus potential

  • Paid vacation, holidays, and sick time

  • Life insurance and vision coverage

All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, age, color, sex (including pregnancy), religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, military status, genetic information, or any other status protected by applicable laws or regulations.
