AIS TECHNICIAN
Incumbent serves as Technician for the Information Technology Unit in the Support Services Section of the Administrative Division of the Evansville Police Department. The incumbent is responsible for providing technical support to the department's communication hardware, including mobile and portable radios, mobile computers, desktop computers, body cameras and other electronic equipment.
DUTIES
Provides technical support for all EPD computers, including mobile as well as in-house computers. That includes, but is not limited to purchases, repairs and software modifications to all equipment.
Maintain and maintenance the communications radio network by programming, repairing, servicing, and troubleshooting mobile and portable radios. Maintain and update software used to service the radio infrastructure.
Provide technical support for all EPD body and in-car camera systems.
Download videos as requested by Prosecutor's Office.
Provide application support for the Records Management System and many other internal applications.
Provide classroom instruction on the use of department computer equipment and software applications.
Maintain and update inventory of department owned electronic equipment.
Attend technical training seminars, courses, and conferences to ensure the department is utilizing all equipment / software to its full potential and the incumbent maintains relevant skill sets.
Set up training equipment for various off-site training classes. Ability to set up projectors, speakers, projector screens, and multiple computers.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK
High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience with Windows operating systems and moderate knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and data base products such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, or Microsoft Access.
Knowledge of networking techniques and configurations. Must possess a valid Driver's License.
Meet all department-hiring requirements applicable to position.
Ability to effectively communicate by telephone, written document, via computer, and in person to internal personnel and external service providers.
Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the position.
RESPONSIBILITY
Incumbent will receive training on all hardware and software products required to perform the tasks of the position. Work is reviewed upon completion and errors are readily detected and corrected through supervisory or other established procedures.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS
Incumbent works with fellow employees and supervisors, other city and county departments, and the public in the performance of the duties related to the computer and communications operations of the Evansville Police Department.
Incumbent reports directly to the supervisor assigned to the Information Technology unit.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to regularly lift equipment and materials of light to moderate weight such as computer towers, monitors, radios, and printers.
Work in confined spaces such as vehicles including trucks, underneath office furniture, and other similar work areas.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule. Duties will normally be during working hours, but may require after hours support due to the department's 24 / 7 work schedule.
